Providing children with fresh fruit and vegetables is a socialist Muslim communist lame-stream liberal plot.

especially when those children are the children of millionaires and in some cases billionaires.

our obesity problem is only getting worse in this country. too much fast food, too much pre-packaged stuff, too many sodas. i never kept soda in my house when the kids were growing up. i see roly poly kids wobbling along on their overstrained legs and shake my head.
along with the grant, they should mandate recess time every day, so kids can get some physical activity going.

That's right. They should provide their own fresh fruit and vegetables. The rich - cheap gamers of the system again. What takers. They don't deserve to vote. Get a freaking job and buy their own damn fruit, rather than expecting me to pay for it.

They didn't ask for the fruit (the parents) The school district did. And they mosly all have jobs or are retired. I'm just demonstrating the total waste of government money. Like Penny Pritzker and the farm subsidy she gets for not growing crops on her lakeside estate, Casa Del Sueno. Pictured here http://www.forbes.com/2003/05/19/cx_bs_0519how.html Like she was going to plant corn in between the tennis courts and boat house. Yea that's right she and a lot of others have HOMES for their BOATS and they somehow need fruit and nuts for their kids?

so it's society's responsiblility to take over as parents? Is this that 'takes a village' crap again?

If you can't raise a child properly keep it in your pants or keep your legs closed. If all else fails abortion is still legal. Ask what you can do for yourself not what others can do for you.

The school should serve fresh fruit just as a restaurant does. But just like a restaurant whoever is eating the fruit should be the one paying for it. Even better how about the parents putting fruit in the kid's lunch box. Maybe then the school can concentrate on things like reading and math rather than diet and exercise.

Just make the fat kids walk to and from school

i can't believe you have an issue with schools choosing a healthier type of snack to serve than what they used to.

I don't have an issue with choice in fact I applaud it. I have an issue with tax payers subsidizing the choice as in $50 plus a year per kid. Especially when these kids have last names like Wrigley, Dreyfuss and Pritzger.
