Default No chance for HOY

I've seen arguments that Rachel did not clinch HOY after her Woodward victory. If you feel that way, then give me the horse that still has a shot and why a voter would vote for that horse. I'll give you contenders and why they have no shot for HOY.

Gio Ponti. First of all, turf horses are always at a disadvantage for HOY. There are voters who feel they must vote for a dirt horse and no turf horse should get it unless he also wins on dirt. With so many people also against synthetic surfaces, a victory in BC Classic this year is OK but not enough to sway people to him over Rachel.

Sea the Stars. The Eclipse Award is for horses and their accomplishments in North America. If Sea the Stars win the BC Classic (big if but not impossible), that one race will not put him ahead of Rachel. Plus, voters HATE rewarding a horse with one North American race with a championship unless they are that dominant and there is no other candidate with a worthy record.

Zenyatta. Even if she wins the BC Classic, the fact she raced so lightly in 2009 and the fact she never ran on regular dirt in 2009 and left California in 2009 will be her downfall for HOY. If Zenyatta goes undefeated this year, I want to hear the debate on who is the greatest undefeated Filly and Mare not to be HOY, Zenyatta or Personal Ensign.

I think Mother Russia is making her case heard.

I enjoyed hearing Ken McPeak on TVG today.

He said "If Einstein wins the Pacific Classic and Breeders Cup Classic - I will have bought the horse of the year each of the last three years."

No. He said that.

He was bragging about how he bought Curlin as a yearling and Einstein from South America.
