One of the biggest mis-conceptions in racing is assuming that when a horse closes at a distance of a mile or less, then that horse is going to love added distance. This is certainly not the case. I am not saying that Quay wont like the added distance, but to assume a horse will like longer distance just because he/she can close in sprint races is not good handicapping.

Hes not really a closer. He lopes along and then hits you with a tremendous burst.
Most closers are defined as types who grind away by running even 1/4's.
Also, the pace of hsi most recent race was a large reason why he was so far behind(being a complete goofball is another).
His running style is exactly the style that strikes me as that of a horse who will be more effective the farther that they go.

Maybe a beter question . Do they both knock heads at GP or does he ship to FG Oaklawn, Aqu or GPwest {Tampa} with one. Also wondering about some of his others, if he will run them through conditions or jump up to lesser Graded stakes trying to keep them apart. With his depth, it looks like he could have a small string at Oaklawn and or FG for there earlyTC preps.Im thinking it would be beter to train at these tracks than to ship. Im sure Assmusen will have a string at all three.

Steve will be back in New Orleans this winter - not Gulfstream....he loves the FG training surface and believes it to be paramount to the success of his operation to keep his horses sound and allow them to alleviate their soreness and freshen up for a campaign the next year...

He'll have his first string at FG and just ship in to GP for races....he also likes FG because it is a short commute down I-10 to Houston, where he starts all of his babies in the winter fresh off of his dad's farm at El Premiero in El Paso, TX to get them ready for Keeneland in April....
