Default Mail The Ballots in Today!

The race is over. The rest of the year will just be a coronation. The 2009 HOY has already been decided. He's 4/5 to win it. By the end of the year, he'll be on the short list of the best horses of the past 10 years. At least. He may head that list. His name?

Rail Trip.

LOL. Come on Drugs. You've got to admit that you haven't seen one that has the ability that this one appears to have in a few years. There appears there's nothing he can't do. His first race, he flew to the lead and went 44.51, 55.96 fractions. Finished in 1:07.94 (final 8th in 11.98). Second race, he was content to stalk the leaders through a 44.35 half and he went 1:07.85, 1:13.92. Then this third race, he went to the lead and ran them into submission again. Granted, the pace was not fast at all (48.06, 1:12.15) but that's what made it so wonderful. The way he completely relaxed on the lead in his first route attempt and still finished well was nice to see. It's not too many horses out there that have the kind of speed he has shown that can also relax and carry it a distance.

He ran 1/30 at Santa Anita. If you can, check out all three of his races. Horse like this are the reason why, despite so much that's negative in the sport, I can't give it up because I'm always afraid I'll miss the boat when a great one comes along. Damn this horse has got me excited.

I was hoping you'd have a good comeback.

King,

You're points all have merit. But C'mon, that last race was totally uncontested from the first 100 yards. There was other speed in that race and nobody came close to challenging him at all.

And he'll never have to race on dirt. Yawn.

Bold prediction......on the shelf shortly with a supposed " minor " problem. Begins working again in late summer with an " eye " on the BC, but they're taking things slowly, followed by a subsequent retirement.

I can see the ads now......" not since Rodeo has one who raced so infrequently summoned this much excitement. "

I would have liked to have seen him challenged in that race. But even though he wasn't, I loved the way he relaxed on his own so easily. What I know is that he can run 22 and 44 already. It's hard to run 44 and still win going beyond a mile so he was going to have to show that he could be rated and he handled that well. I think he's going to be one of those types that will force the competition to always make a decision. Do you let him alone up and risk not catching him or do you compromise your own chances and go with him? And if you go with him, he's not going to kill himself in a speed duel with you because he doesn't have to have the lead.

That's the unfortunate downside to things is that we don't have to see him on dirt this year and if he does what I expect him to do, it's unlikely we'll see him next year at all. But I'm hoping that Ellis and Co. decide that the Big Cap at 10f is a bit much at this point and ship him to New Orleans and Oaklawn for their two big races. I'd love to see him in the Met Mile.

Just watched his replays. Very fast, but he carries his head way too high IMO.

He was cross-firing down the stretch.

Just once on the internet I would like to see someone praise a first time starter, that didn't come close to winning, and be even mildly right about the horse's future. Sorry KG, but seeing a thread predicting big things from a hyped up three time winner, with decent speed figures, is like telling me that Kate Beckinsale is pretty.
