![]() I wasn't sure where to post this, but the Baltimore Sun outlined yet another signal that racing in Maryland is dying a slow and ugly death. Eliminating races like the DeFrancis and the Laurel Futurity would be incredibly unfortunate.
I know that while most folks only care about Maryland racing one May weekend every year, many of us are there at Laurel on random weekends to see races like the General George or the DeFrancis Dash, and it would be a darn shame to see what was once a great place for racing plummet even further off the national stage. I have no doubt that Les Bois will be more relevant to national racing in a few years than Pimlico and Laurel. http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/h...,2117046.story

![]() The legislature sat there for 10 years and watched all of the neighboring states approve slots. They did shiat!! I know that they were approached by major Las Vegas gaming companies about 7 or 8 years ago. They were prepared to hand the state the moon and beyond......the staties said, "nah."
It's a shame as the racing industry in MD was once a notch below NY, FL, and CA. There are about 1500 jobs that will be gone.

![]() As a Washingtonian, this was one of my favorite racing days. Two days after Thanksgiving and paired with the Remsen/Cigar Mile, over the past few years it featured Thor's Echo, Benny the Bull, Cowboy Cal, Adriano, and Barbaro, among others.

![]() When I got to the track after work to play Del Mar about the 3rd there was a large media contingent with dishes and talking heads outside Laurel. This must have been where the announcement was made.....Laurel is a ghost track whether they run or not. Many more people are interested in simulcast.....the handwriting is on the wall.

![]() it's a shame. hate seeing my former home state reduced to what it has become. i don't even know that at this point, even if slots were to be allowed, that they can save racing in that state. who'd have thought it? maryland racing used to be big. now, other than the preakness, no one cares about it.
