I'm pulling for the 5 1/2F race #2 on Thursday Aug 7, or the 6F race #4 on Aug 10, or even the 5 1/2F on turf race # 2 on Aug 10... all which coincide with my trip to Saratoga this year.

How about it, Chuck? Is Aug 1 too soon for the first race? Is 5 1/2F or 6F too far?

This seems like the time to bring back the Saratoga Cup, 1 3/4 miles, run first in 1865 at 2 1/4 miles, last run at a marathon distance in the 60s. Busanda, Buckpasser's mummy, won it twice, as did the tough as nails Stymie. Exterminator won it four times. Other stars on the winning list ar War Admial, Gallant Fox, Equipoise, Friar Rock, Roamer, Princequillo, Beldame, going back to Parole, Longfellow, and the first winner Kentucky.

The only horses that are around to run in such races are plodding stayers like Malibu Moonshine.. The stock and or the trainers aren't involved in conditioning anything but run the way ordinary horses for such a race. Until there is a shift in the industry let's keep the gold in the hands of real horses not a bunch of 50 claimers that can run 14 fulongs at 27 seconds each.. In europe you have horse with talent like the two Obrien conditions just nothing in the States like Like Yeats and Septimus

Why will there be a shift in the industry if no races are carded for longer distances ? There won't be.

When in January I saw that on 8/9 a Saturday they no graded race I begged NYRA to bring back the Saratoga Breeders Cup at 10F. The race could have kept its grade and they could have run it for $150,000, $100,000 NYRA money and $50,000 BC money. If they don’t run the race this year it will lose its graded status. Instead they added 5 overnight stakes costing NYRA $500,000 NYRA money and they still do not have a 10F race for older horse at Saratoga. I think that is a disgrace for a track of Saratoga’s renown.

Hasn't it already lost its Graded status? I don't think it's been run in at least two years.

That being said, take a good look at the Suburban and tell me what we would get for this race and why it should be run. The five overnight stakes have a real chance to get good and full fields.....like it or not, the Saratoga Cup, at 10 Furlongs, was a huge favorite to get neither. IMO, you are advocating the running of one bad race over five good ones.

Don't you think it's about time NYRA started to "PIMP" Saratoga and earn some money to help support horseman.. They need money they get money from full fields with big handles and selling there best assets.. If you want to run for good money at Aqueduct on feb 18 when its 7 below zero they have to maximize the Saratoga EARN like it or not what does NYRA really have that they can make money on other then SARATOGA..

So much capital is needed to support the game in NY and all I know is there is only one way to get it..... milk your cash cow SARATOGA

We all love Evening Attire and have enjoyed him forever but what's good for the game has to be more important then watching him in a race that wil not do as much for NYRA as others. I guess it sucks but he isn't going anywhere and there will be other suitable races coming up .. And we will all be waiting and rooting for him to run them down late just not at Saratoga.. Maybe when he finally retires they will rename some race after him..

They should run the Woodard at 10f, that solves alot. Having a Saturday with nothing more than the Yaddo is a disaster. I'm planning on going to the Cape that weekend, and I LIVE here near Saratoga!

So the Woodward and JCGC should both be 1 1/4 mile races?

I think the lack of a graded stake on a Saturday is odd, to say the least, but the fields will be interesting and bettable. Off the top of my head, I can't think of whether EA has run well on turf in the past, but they do have a long distance $80k turf race (which I believe will be the 4th week this year.) Maybe that could be a spot for him?

I have no problem with that idea, especially with the Whitney at 1 1/8 earlier in the meet.

The problem with having two 10f races so close together obviously is how to fill them. A top horse is expected to prep for the 10f jcgc with the 10f woodward and then possibly ship across the country for the BC at 10f. How many top horses are you going to get to do that? How many horses are you going to get to do that period, good horse or not?

Didnt that Suburban tell us something?
