It's actually kind of interesting to hear there's backlash by those wanting more about the horse in the book. There's a bit of publishing history behind other books under contract on Barbaro that didn't get written- and the Jackson's insistence on some control over the sales proceeds... I'd have thought to see this one on the shelf that they were quite involved.

John Eisenberg wrote the book w/ Prado. He's OK.

You clearly can understand the scenario better than anyone..

I had Eisenberg on the show, and one reason that the book apparently ended up leaning heavily on Prado's life story was the fact that he was on the shelf injured at the time they were meeting and there was a rare luxury of time to talk. Eisenberg said the more they met, the more compelling he found Edgar's story. But perhaps the way they marketed the book has led to the disappointment from the Barbaro-tuned readers...?

Eisenberg and many others I've spoken with have said they enjoyed the Prado aspect of the book most... But it isn't surprising that the ardent Barbaro fans, who are eager to turn him into an Equine Elvis, have been more vocal with their thoughts about the book.

I appreciate Kent for a number of reasons:

1) He's the most articulate of the jocks when it comes to discussing trips. At least, with him, I get the sense that he understands pace and HOW he's supposed to ride. He understands that the way to take the turn on a horse going into the pace is SLOWLY, as bidding all out on the turn spells certain defeat. He doesn't do this as consistently as I'd want, unfortunately, but he does it enough to where I can appreciate his fine rides and 'understand' his screwups. As an example: his most recent ride on Stormy West. Clearly, she's best in the race but by sending her he nicely takes all the sprinters out of the race and is able to hold the lone closer off.

2) He's an extremely talented 'handler' of horses, being able to easily handle horses other jocks struggle with and is probably the least abusive of the jocks other than Dominguez (with Maragh right up there as well.) So, he's able to handle the very headstrong Sharp Susan, while Castro and Cornelio feel the need to fight were her as if it were a personal thing. Most recently, look at his ride on Remarkable Remy (2 races back) and compare it with Cornelio's the race before. Kent is not only stronger, thus being able to restrain her easier but he's much smoother or 'quiet' in doing so.

If you like Desormeaux best, you are apparently only a "Win" bettor.

But this all means nothing. While I absolutely loathe certain jocks, I'd still bet them if I thought they fit a particular horse OR if the price was right. Well, with the exception of Ariel Smith; I wouldn't bet that hack under any circumstances.

This game sucks in that every possible way to lose seems to be in play in very race. It's a fulltime job to keep from tripping yourself up.

You should really focus on betting the horses, and not the jockeys.

I hope Bejarano writes a book one day (with help of course), but my secret wish is that they leave him referring to every horse he has ever ridden as a "he" or "heeeem."

Regardless of the sex of his mount, when they come for home they all turn into males.

I believe with 100% certainty if you asked him right now how the ride on Intercontinental went, he would respond with something along the lines of.

"The other horse, they no come get me. When I ask heeeem, he just keep coming you know." And then kiss his fingers and throw a peace sign.
