And obviously I am well aware that many other crappy horses have records. So what? Does that mean I have to like it? All I am saying is that I would RATHER have this record belong to good horses than a crappy one. That's it. Why is that so hard to understand? Last edited by miraja2 : 04-29-2008 at 07:33 AM. |

![]() i felt the same way about najran when he broke dr fagers record to be honest with you. but then came the realization that it took nothing away from dr fager that he's sharing the time with a lesser horse.

![]() Super read and I hope she breaks the record. Nice to read about a very successful horse spotted at her legitimate competitive level. That really has to help her confidence.

I stopped by Ruidoso Downs in late May on a cross country drive from Gainesville FL to the San Francisco Bay area. It's the 2nd time I've been there, though never for live racing. It's a beautiful little track in a very unique mountain and wooded setting in New Mexico. |

![]() I've had Joel Marr and Joe Allen on the show several times during this run, and the two of them couldn't be nicer.. Have been rooting this mare along since the story came to light last year. (And of course I have a kindred spirit in Allen who has a rather famed Barbecue joint in Abilene...)

![]() Besides, there was a horse in Puerto Rico named Camarero whose record rivals Kincsem's 54 wins, racing back in the 1950s. He won 73 of 77, 56 of them in a row. True, he was running against a limited group of horses repeatedly, just like Peppers Pride is, not at what amounted to international G1 level like Kincsem did. Citation's record was accomplished vs., for the most part, top class runners, but it was a 'modern record' for consecutive wins if you only count mainland US.

![]() Unfortunately, Citation, Mister Frisky and Hallowed Dreams won't have their record of 16 North American modern day wins challenged today.
The track is unplayable due to flooding. http://www.koat.com/news/17005517/detail.html HRTV had a decent phone interview with Joe Allen around 12:30 or so. (It may be replayed) NYT also had a nice article http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/27/sp...tml?ref=sports

Again, I guess I'll be one of the very few people rooting against her attempt to break this record. I still don't see why people would cheer for a horse like this to break Citation's record. It just doesn't make sense to me. To me it is pretty cool that a horse THAT good, from THAT long ago still holds a share of a record like that. I think it would be a shame to see that go away because of a horse like this. If some mighty New Mexico bred steps up and stops her streak, I would be happy to cheer for Pepper's Pride in any future races in which she enters. But to cheer for her to top horses like Citation and even Cigar......no way. |

That said, I'll be rooting solidly for Pepper's Pride. To me, it's apples and oranges to Citation's co-held streak. And to history, if she gets it, it will be as well. Any serious baseball fan knows Joe DiMaggio does NOT own the longest professional baseball hitting streak. Joe Wilhoit does. 69 games over 56. Wilhoit's accomplishment was tremendous and great. Pro baseball is and was pro baseball. But, history and logic favors the Joe DiMaggio record, and Wilhoit is a little known asterisk. |
