Default Pick 3,4 ?'s

I have come to the board b/c i am sure that there are a lot more people that are better at this then i am so answers are appreciated. My ?'s are:
1) Everytime i play an imaginary ticket with the a,b,c,x format if i win i find that i have spent at least 300-400 dollars and the payoffs on the ones ive gotten(not many) are "only" 1200-1900 which isn't bad but i usually play win/place with some exactas and maybe a tri here and there and the payoffs to my tickets only comes back at 4-1 to 6-1. It just seems like a lot of money to put out to only get back those kind of odds.
2) What is the deepest you will go in a race? this weekend one of the guys on tvg hit the "all" button and got a 3-1 winner. Does it make sense to ever hit the all button?
3)ARe there certain tracks that you like to play more then others for these bets? I look at the payoffs in the drf simulcast and am amazed that some of the payoffs for some tracks with similar winners are a good bit lower then others.
4) What is the budget you have for these bets? I bet maybe 10-20 a race and will go to 50 if its a race that i really like a horse so i guess my handle for a day would be 150-200 maybe more on big days like KD, Sfoster. Im live in lville so feel more comfortable betting at CD.

Any help would be appreciated b/c i really like the tourny feel of the bets and ive read the book by Christ but feel that i dont have the feel for it.Also im bored tonight and would like to get some information as TC season is about to start.

Definitely some great stuff in Crist's book. I think people make too much of a mistake trying to set a budget for this sort of bet. Spending $300 for a P4 you think will be really chalky just cause that is your budget doesn't make sense. And trying to play a really difficult sequence for $50 cause that is your budget doesn't make sense either. Let your opinions on the races dictate what sort of ticket you draw up and then let your budget determine whether or not it is worth placing that bet or passing on the bet.

I really like pick4 play as well.

I generally play with a $72-$225 Budget. I also have learned to pass a lot more than I used to, which I think is a key. With a small play I may only have $1 and a small $2 play. With higher budget, I generally have $1 and $2-$5 possibilities. I really believe in the Exotic Betting strategy.

I will occasionally have coverage to all runners for a buck, but never on my main AB or AA ticket. Definitely rare, as tossing even 1 or 2 can really bring cost down. I generally don't use more than 4/5 runners in the AB slots in any leg.

Except rare occasions, I only play Pick4 where I am most comfortable (NY).

As mentioned above, there are guys here who regularly hit on $4 tickets, so they are probably best to advise...

Hello, WAC,
only you can decide what your cringe level is. if you feel
uncomfortable in swinging wide then put most of your prime bets on wps
exactas. after you make a hit take a small flyer on pk4 pk 6 that way you
might get lucky, on these high risk bets. unless you hit a life changing
pk6 in the long run you will lose at these if you are not weel bankrolled.
don't let the hype and payoffs fool you, there is one true science and
that is mathemactics. and it is stack against you. the betting clubs
with big money wait for us 2 buck bennys to drive it up then they
buy it. sdj/ky
