About a year or two ago I searched google for the phrase "put some speed into him" and I forget the trainer, but was talking about after one of the biggest turf races held at Hollywood park, that he would layoff his french import and "put some speed into him". The horse scractched and never ran in that big graded stakes race, and was laid off for whatever reason for a long time(a year or more?). Showed up on my DRF watch about a month or so ago and really ran surprisingly well in a race in California. "Baby First". Have no idea if this horse is the goods, just kind of a weird watch-list coincidence.

see this is a parimutual game.

information is at a premium

horseplayers with talent are at a premium

positive expectation players are rare

losers are a dime a dozen

smart-alec comments are a dime a dozen

im just saying lets be a little professional.

everyone here is either a fan of horses or the game or the sport

I don't play the smart alec game , and I can really only tolerate it if it is accompanied by some good horse racing information.

Dahoss has never to my knowledge shared anything. Maybe he is a great horseplayer or a great guy, but the interaction and the snide comments has had him on ignore for a while.

I thought pillow pants has offered some good discussion.

It's a selfish motive here, but I enjoy this site less when I have to ignore people.

There are some quality horseplayers here (GPK,BTW,FATMAN,Steve,Hooves, and others i can't recall off-hand), and they are the reason I participate in the site.

You now know that Baby First had high hopes being entered in the Hollywood Turf cup 12.09.2006. You also got an opinion out of me that he ran surprisingly well in his 1st off layoff race. It may or may not do you a bit of good, I don't even know if you have even been handicapping the Fair Grounds Handicap.

I found the article again

Baby First Arrives For Turf Cup

Provided by Hollywood Park

Baby First, a 3-year-old colt with three victories in five starts in France, cleared quarantine Sunday and was transferred to the Eric Guillot stable in Barn 65 North for the $250,000 Hollywood Turf Cup Saturday. The Grade I test will be run at 1 ½ miles on grass.

"He came over with a boy who doesn't speak a word of English, and my Cajun French was not cutting it," said Guillot kiddingly of an early communication gap.

"Hubert Guy (a bloodstock agent) found this horse for us in France," added Guillot, who bought him from owner-breeder Frederic Fisk for the Southern Equine Stable that Guillot co-owns. "He's been very consistent and is a true mile-and-a-half-type horse," added Guillot. Baby First, by Enrique out of the Alleged mare First Turn, finished third in the Group II Prix du Conseil de Paris at Longchamps in his last start Oct. 15.

"He worked a mile and a quarter in France last Tuesday and came over with good flesh," added Guillot. "Later, after this race, we will put some speed into him and get him more Americanized." David Cohen has the Turf Cup call.

Guy seeks to win his second Turf Cup with a French import making his United States debut. He found and briefly owned Frenchpark when he won the 1994 Turf Cup under Corey Black and paid a stakes-record $72.60 to win.

Baby First, the only 3-year-old nominated to the race, seeks to become the first sophomore to win since 1992, when Bien Bien prevailed through disqualification.

A field of ten is probable: Artiste Royal (Corey Nakatani), Baby First (Cohen), Boboman (no rider), Cosmonaut (Julien Leparoux), Meteor Storm (Victor Espinoza), Mighty Mysterious (Danny Sorenson), Notable Guest (Garrett Gomez), Runaway Dancer (Aaron Gryder), Symphony Sid (Michael Baze) and T.H. Approval (Alex Solis). Three-year-olds will carry 122 pounds, older horses 126.

What a jerk. Talks about professionalism and posts an article without permission.

This was actually funny. There was intelligent context to the joke.

lol @ hooves picking up a cheetoz bag

lmao hooves is delerious , scavaging for snacks. you need a play for this weekend man?

I can have a sense of humor, and can take it and "dish it out", when it comes from someone like Hooves who is participating. That is my point.

I liked the James Van Der Beek one a lot better.

Not to change the subject, but do you guys think Proud Spell (or somebody else) has a shot against Indian Blesing here?

I'm really here for the snide comments, pillow's picture posts, and a little pony jawing.

she is most likely to win, but the probables could favor a small wager on proud spell , highest class or asmussen (jolie?)

Considering what's out there, this looks like a very solid card. How playable it is, I can't opine on yet.

Think Asmussen made the right call shipping Silver Lord back to New Orleans. Yeah, he was stabled in Hot Springs but IMO, I think both Grasshopper and Magna Graduate are vulnerable. We still have to see how Grasshopper runs when he isn't prompting a slow pace at Saratoga and I just don't trust Magna Graduate. We know Silver Lord already handles the track down there. Think he can roll/

After barely holding off Golden Doc A at 7f last time, I was told that it was further proof that Indian Blessing couldn't get past a mile. Well, she got past a mile again today, again beating Proud Spell. Yeah, she was getting late again in the lane but as I said last time, what does that matter? She was set to run the conditions of today's race and ran them well.

Who knows how far she will go but if she was in a race with just about any 3yo male not named War Pass or El Gato Malo, at this point, I don't see any that I'd take over her up to 8.5 or maybe even 9f. Her speed is a bigger advantage than it is a disadvantage.

She is really good.

I like her to pull off the Acorn - Prioress - Test Grade 1 Triple.

It could be interesting to see if Baffert runs her in the Mother Goose or the Prioress as they are very close together.

Regardless, she's damn good.

If there is a race that NEEDS to draw Indian Blessing to keep its Grade 1 status, its the Prioress. But then again, it could probably have an Acey-Deucey type win and the committee would still not downgrade it.
