can someone explain this to me:

"Jeter purchased an apartment at Trump World Tower in October 2001, according to New York City real estate records."

where i live you rent an apartment. you purchase a condominium or townhouse.

i hear "living in an apartment", i think "can't afford to buy".

why is new york the only place anyone buys an apartment?
