A real dominatrix doesn't enjoy the "sting of the whip", the dominatrix is the one USING the whip... so technically, someone like Chantal Sutherland could be considered a dominatrix

To be literal, the driver would have had to have been the dominatrix, but the call was a riot. Right up there with Michael Wrona's "staying like a mother in law..."
Lederman is hysterical. Of course Luke Kruytbosch is the only man I know who can say the words "charging up the backside" 9 times a day and not lose his job.

Great race. And I think Vic likes Lava Man.
You know he loves the horse and he wants him to win so what the hell.
I found it endearing and exciting. And I like Lava Man.

In my opinion, I think much of the public is too critical. I think a racetrack announcer, who has and displays his passion, has one of the main ingredients in being a good racetrack announcer. If you look at the big names, at the big tracks -- they are all more than competent, professional, etc. Somebody may not like a drawl, inflection, or a voice, but that doesn't make them a bad announcer.

Forgetting a name, blowing a call, hesitating, whatever -- everyone makes mistakes. Vic Stauffer is a professional and he knows his craft.

It isn't like I listen to the names anyways, my eyes tell me what the hell is going on, the tone is what gets me going. How someone can be pumped after watching that Lava Man race is beyond me.....

I will always enjoy a racecaller that has a passion for the sport like Vic and others over a mondain racecaller. After I watched the race live via simulcast I said that was a great racecall. I really enjoyed it.

What I rember most about Kurt Gibsons home run in the world series is the great call of Vin Scully I believe it was...... I don't believe what I just saw.

Sometimes great moments in sports/horseracing become unforgetable when articulated bt a great racecall or play by play announcer. Keep up the great work Vic!

I applaud your referencing of Gibson's HR as it is my fondest of sports memories. A few minor corrections though: Kirk Gibson. And the call you're referring to was the national TV broadcast call by Jack Buck " And I dont believe what i just saw...........i dont believe what i just saw." Brilliant.

Vin's call was over the radio and as a whole captured the entire at-bat in the way that only he can.

For what its worth, I liked Vic's call of this one. I'm a SA and DM guy though....so Denman is the don imo.

The call of Lava Man at the wire was funny but to say this was a great call of a race is wrong. Part of what made this so funny is that he was so wrong from the turn to the wire that that added to the comedy. I think he wanted the set up of Molengao and Lava Man in the stretch so he called that at the top. From what I could see Lava Man did not gain the lead until the last couple of jumps and for him to say AP Xcellent falls to third just made me wonder what race he was watching.

When Lava Man moved to AP X, Vic made the assumption that AP X was packing it in and with Molengao joining the fray from the outside, he called called him third. 9 times out of 10, that is probably what would have happened. In this case, AP X dug in, Molengao flattened out and Vic was very wrong.

I still put Vic in my top 5 current racecallers, because of his enthusiasm and obvious love for the game.

Your right. He did mess up. He was peeing all over himself.

He is such a homer with this horse and win the horse wins with a gutty performance like that... I loved the call just because of what you wrote. He just lost it. He was probably spitting all over his binoculars. And it was great. If you go back in sports and listen to the calls that are replayed, football, basketball, they usually come from homers. I remember a high school football game in Texas that was one of the most ungodly comebacks I have ever heard. They played these homer announcers calling the game all over the state again and again. It never got old. They were horrible but the description was great. The unrehearsed, sheer joy was a true look into what makes sports great on a personal level.

I will add that when Texas beat USC in the Rose Bowl my wife was asleep. My daughter and I were jumping all over the beds running into each other falling all over the floor, hitting each other with pillows. My wife woke up and did not yell at us.
So I am biased by the joy people show when they win. And with Texas that does not come often with National Championships. Good for Vic.

What got me was the screeching. If I wanted to hear that I'd go to a playground.

I thought the best call all year was far and away the Belmont Stakes. Durkin was obviously moved, but his speech was still coherent.

yeah, that's about right. that's why I liked it because it was unscripted bluster caused by excitement. you better believe there was spit on the glass, knocked over coffee cups, tipped over chairs, etc. we actually didn't need the call because you could see what was happening. personally I like that the guy occaisonally goes off kilter in the heat of a call.

I really haven't seen much criticism about the call. Personally I didn't care for it and I think Vic Stauffer's excitement also goes way overboard sometimes. I think he's an extremely nice guy from the way he sounds on TV, but he has big gaps in his calls and sometimes just doesn't sound smooth at all. All in all I can't blame anyone who liked the Lava Man call. Vic was into it.

Watch the replay Scavy and listen closely at the top of the stretch, he definitely calls APX third.

He gave up on APX and thought he had the Lava-Molengao duel that everyone was looking for.

i like any race caller sportcaster who shows excitement in there calls. also no problem with homers. excitement is what it is about. not just to say good race or game.
