Default A scan for the mighty one

by Racing Post staff

A SCAN in the next few days should shed further light on the future of the sidelined Teofilo.

Last season's champion juvenile, who was unbeaten last term, was expected to continue this campaign where he left off when beating Holy Roman Emperor in the Dewhurst last October.

Trainer Jim Bolger was even on record saying "the sky is the limit" for the son of Galileo but a setback before the Stan James 2,000 Guineas eventually forced him to miss the Newmarket classic.

He has been on the easy list since the recurrence of an off-fore knee problem.

"He'll have a scan at the end of the month and we should have a better idea then if we can step up his work at that stage," Bolger said on Monday.

"I'm still hopeful you'll see him again."

hopeful but not confident.. it just seems that the easy option would be to retire him.. but fair play to connections for keeping faith and giving the horse every chance of returning to the track (well this year at least!)

I must admit, i've almost lost any faith i had in seeing him on a track again. It's a great shame. I think we all know he would have gone past Authorized like he was standing still in this years Derby. (well, i do anyway). It's just taking so long.

Even if we do see him back, it will be for two races at most, and for a horse like him, who is known for not being a very clean winded horse, it could take two starts to blow away all the cobwebs.

If he would have gone past Authorized like he was standing still, he would have ran the most impressive Epsom Derby in history.

I think Authorized might have wiped the floor with him.

You obviously know very little about this horse then. For a horse that was not made or bred to be a two year old, who isn't clean winded, he won all of his starts and gave a beating to Holy Roman Emperor more than once, so it was no fluke.

You have to remember, Authorized beat a dreadful Derby field, do not go overboard about this horse.

If Teofilo had been in the Derby, he would have beaten Authorized easily (and most over here agree) and it would have been a mile back to the third horse.
