Deep closers don't typically win up the rail....they have to split horses and circle around horses. The 2nd race winner stalked in 3rd, and sneaked up the rail to win by 2 lengths and 9/5 odds in race #2.

Two of the nine races were won by horses who came from off-the-pace, and won up the rail. Another two races were won by horses who went wire-to-wire...I'm going to assume you'll say those two horses weren't on the rail? They both had inside position, and the horses who tried coming around them got beaten off.

The horses that day who went to wire to wire tended to stay off the rail, espically in the stretch and stay in the 3rd or 2nd path.

In race #2, the horse did not sneak up the rail, he was much the best the winner early on in the race. He also got off the rail a bit and seemed to be in the 2 path all through the stretch.

Watch the horses that didn't win the race, that finished 3rd or worse. The ones on the rail lost ground, the ones trying to close on the rail couldn't make up any ground, while the ones towards the center of the track were able too. Just forget about the winners and watch that.

Thanks for the advice....

My advice for you is to go play in traffic.

DrugS,

You have mellowed from the olden days of AOL.

I am not saying that is a bad thing, by the way....

Before the race, Borel or not, I was expecting Street Sense to win on the outside in the stretch.

The inside is risky you can get stopped. The danger with the outside move is that it requires an earlier commitment and would leave SS with more to do in the lane, but I thought he was good enough. With ground loss and an earlier move it would have been extremely close between the top 2.

Borel made a great move in hindsight.

20 questions:
What happens if Stormello goes to the lead? How does that change the entire set-up?

What if Curlin is follows Sedgefield into the pocket right out of the gate?

...

Bring on the debate!! Hahaha!

Finger Lakes to me, is either Central or Western, NY.

Albany/Adirondacks north, Upstate.
Syracuse, Central.
Roch/Buffalo, Western.
Binghampton/Elmira/Catskills, Southern.

This is an debate that can go on and on.

I just started saying I am from VT, since I am closer to VT then any place that gets thrown at you when you say you are from NY or Upstate, NY.

"Oh Saratoga/Lake George, that's near Niagara Falls right? Oh it is not? Oh so near the City are you?."

When you can go back and prove that other horses finished better on the rail then others, and show that with charts or video evidence, then you will have proven that the rail was not dead. Do that, and you will prove your point. The problem is, no horse was able to gain any ground on the rail all day long, except for Street Sense. Sorry, but I really think you are just fighting a losing battle here.

Also, way to AGAIN deflect from the true argument. You again try to take away from the fact that you can not back up your opinion.
You should be thankful this person took time to exchange thoughts in a kindly modulated manner. Your responses were, lamentably, not likewise.

You come from family money?

You come off sounding like just another guy who was born on 3rd base yet thinks he hit a triple.

I come from a family that didn't have any money.

I worked in slate quarries during junior and senior high school, and then worked for NYRA cleaning up the backsides at Saratoga (bathrooms, dorms, hauling trash, etc) in the summers. Then I went to college. I worked full-time jobs during those years too, so I didn't have to just take out too many student loans. Got a degree and am now in the working world, with a decent job.

No silver spoon for me, but thank you for the benighted comment.

Best regards to you sir.

Who said anything about favorites? Was not this a discussion of if the rail was live or dead? Are you trying to baffle us with bull$hit, or are you really just that befuddled?

Seems to me that you even proved my point with you meandering explination of races. You never said anyone closed on the rail to win! So prove me wrong, where was the proof of a live rail, or at least a rail that was not dead?

You really showing what kind of muttonhead you truly are.
Whoa man! How about stepping down off your high horse. I like a lively exchange of views on racing, and by all means defend your opinions, but lets not turn it in to a street fight.

Like Michael Corleone said "It's not personal Sonny, it's strictly racing."

I wan't trying to attack him as a person, more his statements. I don't know him as a person. So I appologize for it being taken and coming off that way.

However, don't forget, for all his complaing about that one sentance, he had stooped to the same level and it wasn't about my comments. Not to mention his condescending posts and attacks.

How many ways are there to take calling someone a "muttonhead?"

More then by calling someone a "MF'er" or "A-hole." Correct?

How should I take being told to go play in a road? You don't see me crying about that.

This is getting pointless.

Why not get back to what this theard started about, the Met Mile.

I called him an idiot once and that was the end of that. I'm amazed that this has gone on so long.

I guess it depends on how much somebody likes mutton.

I have witnessed DrugS for years several years on the internet, going back to the AOL message boards of long ago. I have never seen anyone who could consistently come up with such astounding insights about horse racing. Racing is a little like baseball--most of the time your are not getting on base. But the DrugSter was like frickin' Ty Cobb or Ted Williams compared to 99% of the posters I've seen.

Since I am new here I cannot be too quick to judge, but I will sit back and see how well the loudmouthed table-pounders here can duplicate his feats. Anybody can cash Derby tickets on the favorite over the 4th and 2nd choices (hell, even I did that--and made a profit). But when you relentlessly tout Invisible Ink in the exotics for weeks, in the face of much ridicule, let me know.
