Jazil to try Turf on Friday at Keeneland

Interesting experiment, and it is only 9f, but why not.

Jazil is entered Fri in a $54,000 Turf allowance at Keeneland. Some nice races with full cards.

its hard for me to like him in here, first time turf and only a 1 1/8 they were saying earlier in the year that he needed 1 1/2, this does not make much since to me.... im guessing they just dont know where to run him

Look around. Not a ton of 1-1/2 races on the turf this time of year for his conditions....I'm not picking him to win, but it will be his first race in awhile, and I think it makes sense to try him here.

This race makes sense if you're thinking turf. First, there's nothing on the Keeneland lawn before the Elkhorn on turf longer than 9 furlongs. Second, if he runs well and even closes to come up a bit short you have, if not the Elkhorn, the Manhattan on the Belmont undercard and some other options, like the Bowling Green later in the meet, the Sword Dancer at the Spa, then ultimately the BC Turf. The horse's breeding looks great for turf and I think his style will suit turf. I think there's also a mis-conception right now that he can only win at 12 furlongs. There's no doubt that the best race of his career came at 12 furlongs, but that doesn't erase the fact that he came up a length short at 9 furlongs and lost earlier in his career by a whisker at 7 furlongs. I think the horse can be successful from 9 to 12 furlongs.

I also believe firmly that in time we will see that chasing a loose leader in his comeback and then a horse who ran the race of his life made for two tough assignments.

thats your opinion and it makes sense, but i feel its wrong a classic grade 1 winner like jazil if hes the real deal should have won his return or second start back, he wasent close to corinthian

I'd like to see them turn him into a jumper.

jazils running style needs the perfect set up, plus he is coming back from an injury. not all horses come back in the same mode that they were in before an injury. he may never run back to that level.
also, the turf may be better for his running style than dirt. i wouldn't get too hung up on the turf race being this distance.

Pace makes the race. With easy fractions in front, the front-runners didn't get tired enough to make Jazil's late run effective vs Corinthian. In the meantime, Jazil, whom nobody thought was the best of his generation or even second-best, has gotten important race-fitness.

I think this horse will move up quite a bit on turf.

While he may not have the most obvious turf pedigree in history, I think his breeding is certainly capable of being a good turf runner. More importantly, in my eyes, he kind of runs like a turf horse on dirt.

While I am looking forward to see him try the turf, I really question how well he might do. Turf racing usually involves cruising along, finding a good position, and then a big sprint in the final stretch. Horses that do well on turf have the ability to quicken substantially in the stretch. Jazil seems to me more of a grinder, more one-paced.

I could be wrong so we'll see. I guess I like the fact that they're trying something different with him.

First....he is eligable for a 2 other than....secondly, I honestly don't think we will see him win another race in his career
