Default Kent D

Pretty sweet ride on Bold Endeavor. He was sure he could win no matter the circumstance.

He was wrong.

Dislike or not he’s correct. No clue WTF that was.

Would like to think the horse was just flat but he ran on okay through the stretch, so hard to think that.

The horse was, in fact, in front of Heywoods Beach last out and today was, what 5-6 lengths behind that one? Hard to comprehend. Would be nice to hear from either Kent or the trainer. We won’t but if Kent isn’t on next ride (he won’t be) we will have our answer as to WTF happened today. Rides like this make it next to impossible to play horses and make me think I need a new hobby.

Not sure I could possibly disagree more.

The race completely collapsed, look how far back the pace setters finished. His horse was 2nd best today.

Kent gives us all lots of chances to crap on him. This wasn’t one of those times. He did nothing wrong.

Why was he so far off Heywood? It’s one thing to be off a pace that collapses, it’s another thing to put your horse in a place where he can’t run his best race in respect to his main rival. Heywood was the clear main rival. A rival he’d been in front of the prior race. So why today be 5 lengths off that rival?

Maybe they were afraid he couldn’t handle the 10F?

I don’t know that answer. But to say it wasn’t because of Kent is wrong. But also to say it was because of Kent is also wrong. We just can’t know without having an open discussion (which we won’t ever get) from the connections.

It’s just frustrating because the optics of that ride were awful. You shouldn’t ride a horse that’s 4/5 that way.

You say he was the main rival but he was 3rd choice in the wagering. He out broke Heywood Beachlast time, when HB broke a step slow. This time they broke together. Last time they were a neck apart after a 1/2 mile.

I guess I’m just saying I could point out 5-10 rides a day where a jock definitely cost their mount the win. I don’t think that was the case here. I think Heywood Beach was just better today.

I think they thought there would be a hot pace with the 1 and 2 and thought the best thing would be to make the last run. It almost worked, other than HB running a big race. I think regardless of how he was ridden, he was not going to beat HB today.

They broke together again. In fact, it looks like Bold Endeavor broke maybe slightly ahead of Heywood. Then BE loses position past the wire the first time and floats wides into that first turn for zero reason. You may very well be right and Heywood was just better than BE yesterday. But I don't think BE was given the best opportunity to win the race while Heywood was. And that made the difference.

And, yes, Heywood was clearly the main rival. He finished 1/2 length behind BE last out. Kershaw finished almost 4 behind BE last time they ran.

They did not break together last time. BE broke at least a length better. If you can’t see that, the rest of the conversation doesn’t matter because it’s obvious HB broke slow last time.

Under the wire the first time Kent pumps once or twice to get BE going. It didn’t really help.

They’re not robots. Some have better days than others.

Fair enough. I just feel like horse and rider seemed to not be in sync the first part of the race. Had they been maybe the margin at the end is closer. Maybe it’s not. I don’t know.

It was perfect. He's been riding very well at Del Mar...and really since coming back to southern California.

Joe Bravo has also ridden very well since arriving. Not sure what that says about the colony out there.
