I have seen at least 4 different Friend's Lake Two Year Olds that look like they can run. I don't know if any of them are stars but they definitely look like runners. I wasn't a huge fan of Friend's Lake as a racehorse but I'm liking what I'm seeing so far from his offspring.
I finally saw a nice Pleasantly Perfect Two Year Old. There is a PP filly at Barrett's who looks like she can run. She is the first decent PP that I've seen. |

They haven't been setting the track on fire at the 2yo sales.
And speaking of scorched earth - William Tecumseh Sherman was far too kind to those who commited treason if you ask me. |

How is it so hard to figure out why a Friends Lake is selling for $450k? He was a GI winner by a GI winner out of a GI winner. Doesn't seem entirely unlikely to me.

Last month - he gets entered in a 2yo sale. He flashes an impressive physique and works a furlong in 10 seconds flat ... showing excellent raw speed for a horse bred to get a distance of ground. He sells for 450K. Had the same horse worked his furlong in 11 flat and not moved well in the process - he'd have most likely been A.) scratched from the sale. or B.) sold or RNA'd for about half of what he sold for as a yearling. |

I don't disagree with you in the least. I'm just saying, in the grand scheme of things, is it really so unbelievable that a Friends Lake would sell for $450k? I would suggest it is not.

Zayat stables bought a Friends Lake yearling for $600K at Keeneland September last year.
The $140K yearling turned $450K 2yo buy that is talked about in this thread was only the 6th most expensive Friend's Lake yearling of 64 offered at public auction. I agree with Rupert that his first crop are showing significantly more speed than what would be expected from them during these sales drills. |
