Default 10 Questions you would ask a trainer....

My son is doing a couple of websites for trainers... There is going to be a Q&A page on each. I need 10 questions you would ask a trainer... this includes questions about partnerships.. I would appreciate anyone listing questions.. Thanks,

Samm

how do you feel about the use of lasix in horses who have shown no predisposition to bleeding?

also, what are your thoughts on starting a horse at age two?

just a couple suggestions from me so far...

oh wait--#3-do you take a check, and if so, can it be post-dated?

If the horse suffers a real bad injury and it cost alot of money what to do? U know what options do we have?

What happens if the horse gets claimed

Default I pretty much know the answer but I'd ask......

Do you like total free reign over your stable, without much interference from your owners? Hope that is a helpful question Samm.

I feel a good question from a partnership side is to ask the trainer how he feels about partners and their families coming to the barn to see their horse.

I would ask the following:
1. How much is your day rate?
2. How much of a percentage do you charge and to what placing?
3. What things can I expect to see on my vet bill monthly?
4. How much does it cost to shoe the horse?
5. Will I get to help select the jockey?
6. Will I be able to come by and see my horse at anytime?
7. How much money will I need in my account before the horse runs?
8. Can I claim a horse even if I dont currently own one?
9. Do I need insurance for my horse?
10. What things do you as the trainer pay for?

Has a horse ever bitten you while you were trying to put a tongue tie on,and did you retaliate?.......I saw Jerry Fanning kick a horse one time, but I would imagine he knew exactly where to kick the horse.

How often are you in contact with the owners of your horses?

I find this the most problem owners seem to have,The amount of times owners come up to me & say they have gotten no information about their horse from a trainer is amazing , with a web site this makes information transition easier for the trainer & owner i think there a great idea & all trainers should have one

Owners are always welcome at the barn , R.M. has alot of contact with his owners wether he talks to them himself or via the secretary. If they dont have alot of personnel contact or contact over the phone he has a the secretary prepare a monthly statement of what the horses are doing and when it looks like they are going to run. Mr. Hughes comes around a couple of times a month and Mr Ford of Diamond A farms comes around every few months and then he has his old clients like The Tin Man's owner Mr.Todd who comes when his horses are going to run and he is so nice he always brings apples and peppers and chilis for the barn.

not doing a tongue tie...but I saw a horse cut a person's thumb to the bone with his canine teeth when she was de-worming him...she got him back for it later, after she got her thumb stitched up....
