After Market ... Where Is The Excitement?

I saw a real race horse at Saratoga on Monday ... his name is After Market.

When I returned to this board today ... I expected to see lots of commentary about him ... but ... I haven't found any.

He was extremely impressive-looking in the paddock ... beautifully put-together ... muscular ... on-the-muscle ... a real attitude. And then he ran a super-impressive race ... remaining undefeated ... by Storm Cat ... and trained by Bill Mott ... the best 3YO turf horse ... and a superstar in the making.

Did I miss the threads about After Market ... or have all the experts on this board suddenly gone brain dead?

Wake up, folks ... this is a real race horse!

Wend was his favorite horse but that horse hit a wall. After Market is his now horse. That race he wired the field in the other day was as exciting as watching a harness race. Glad they save those for Mondays.

There was absolutely no pace ... so After Market sort of set one himself ... then sprinted home.

It was like a European race ... but the impressive part was his final 3f in :35.2 ... with the last 1f in :11.4.

He ran 3 seconds faster than older maiden fillies did in an earlier 9f turf race ... after an almost identical pace for the first 6f.

Not the most exciting spectacle ever ... but this guy has real talent.

Not only is he by Storm Cat, but he's out of the Grade I winning mare Tranquility Lake. The funny thing was that when After Market was making his debut, Mott was not very high on him. He said the horse was just training average.

Are there any more sigfnifcant turf races just for 3YOS?

I'm not sure any of these boys are ready to take on the older American and European turfers in the Fall races ... but ...

... going into next year ... there are very few 3YO colts I'd rather own than After Market.

There are still a few big 3 year old turf races left. The ones that come to mind are the Del Mar Derby and the Hollywood Derby.

Thanks ... but I wonder if any of these East Coast horses will make the trek out there for those two.

The G1 they hang on the Hollywood Derby always attracts a few shippers, and Mott has routinely sent one out for this race. I would expect him to again this year.
