Default Front Page of USA Today

I picked up the USA Today at my Louisville hotel this morning and noticed to my surprise that the Preakness and an article on Calvin Borel made the front page.

When I flipped back to the sports section, the headline front page article was entitled "Fans follow Barbaro's brothers" with a a large picture of Nicanor winning at Delaware on top.

Great news for the sport to have some positive front page press on horse racing.

On Fox News they showed Smarty Jones' blow away victory in the Preakness on the "This Day" segment.

Here's the Nicanor story. I do find it alternately amusing and annoying when someone says something like "We are hoping one of them will take the Triple Crown." It's just so optimistic you can't yell at them, but geez. It's unrealistic. Look the odds of more than one of LVR's offspring even making the Derby field are long just because it's not like the race is packed full of half-sibs to other Derby starters each year, nevermind Derby winners. Matz had to say he's 99.9% sure no Belmont for Nic. Nolan's Cat hit the board as a maiden but that's not exactly the Jacksons' style. I'm sure they keep getting asked about it by some folks though. I'm excited and hopeful as much as the next person but I'm setting the bar fairly low. I'd like them to succeed in some capacity and not breakdown (God forbid a Barbaro brother breaks a leg or something, don't think that wouldn't make the news). I'm happy Nic's got a good outlet. Maybe he can make a BC turf race.

More press. Perhaps racing is becoming cool again?
