![]() Calder Race Course
R3 - Ms Brookski 55K (Turf) 1/2 dozen of these runners exit the Liberada that was held on 6/28/08 #12 Private Betty - She was one of the favorites in the aforementioned Liberada and she finished 3rd missing by a neck. Not the ideal post, but there are a number of speedsters that should set it up nicely for her. #4 Eclisse (Fr) - Comes out of a front running effort in the G3 All Along at CNL where she held on for 2nd and cuts back a furlong and a half. #2 Saint Knows - Winner of the Liberada has won her last three turf starts. #1 Pretoria Light - Draws the rail again and should bounce back after a rough trip in the Liberada as the favorite. #9 Marista - Made a strong move late despite some minor traffic trouble in the stretch in the Liberada. #7 Dancing Band - Well traveled mare is a serious off the pace threat in a race with plenty of speed. Tri Key & Super Key - 12 / 1 2 4 7 9 Colonial Downs R7 - Kittens Joy (Turf) #1 Midwatch - Experienced gelding is familiar with the course and will be forwardly placed. #2 Mint Slewlep - Major player to repeat last effort. #3 Diamond Dina - Not Diamond Diva, but this filly's 4 wins have come at this distance. #4 Dominguin (Per) - Speedster tries the lawn for the 1st time. #5 False I.D. - Last race fell apart and he took advantage of it. #6 Bastille - Closer's last win came on 8/6/06. #7 Ballast (Ire) - Makes 2008 bow and holds a huge class edge over these. #8 Hunting Print - Consistent sort makes 3rd start of the year. All Stakes PK3 - 1 2 7 / 2 7 9 / 2 7 8 9 = $36 Selections #2 Mint Slewlep #1 Midwatch #7 Ballast (Ire) #5 False I.D. R8 - G3 Virginia Oaks #1 Miss Mafioso - Last in G3 Regret at CD and would need to improve a ton to be a factor. #2 Julia Tuttle - Only filly with a win on this course (2 for 2) and looms speed of the speed right back; can't fault those that project a theft attempt. #3 Nijinsky Ballet - Only a maiden win to her credit, but picks up top jock Gomez. #4 Athena's Gift - Canadian shipper looking for 3rd straight victory. #5 Clara's Song - Looks to be a speed presence only before throwing in the towel. #6 Three Graces - Distance might be a problem as Robby hops aboard. #7 Namaste's Wish - Troubled trip in last at MTH and is dangerous in this spot. #8 Born to Be - Don't overlook the Matz runner. #9 Cherokee Queen - Top connections and she's done nothing wrong to this point. #10 I Lost My Choo - Solid performer obliged at odds on versus NY breds, but will be a short price from a difficult post position. Selections #9 Cherokee Queen #2 Julia Tuttle #7 Namaste's Wish #8 Born to Be R9 - G2 Virginia Derby #1 Your Round - Adding some serious value to the Tri in the prep and a minor award seems possible again. #2 Old Man Buck - The grass is much greener on this side for the McPeek runner. #3 El Sultry Sun - Didn't care for the soft going in latest and is capable of making some noise. #4 Court Vision - Should pick up some tiring horses again, I just don't know how good it will be. #5 Baltimore Bob - No business hanging with this group, although firing bullets in the mornings. #6 Budge Man - Another one who seems up against it. #7 Gio Ponti - Has been impressive for Clement, but willing to take a shot elsewhere. #8 Sailor's Cap - Might like some cut on the ground as he tries the 2nd jewel of a near impossible bonus. #9 Southwest - Latest outing was sneaky good and should relish the 10 furlongs at a big price. Selections #9 Southwest #8 Sailor's Cap #2 Old Man Buck #7 Gio Ponti Good Racing Luck

![]() Gus has a VERY good record when tabbing a horse like this... An uncanny record in fact...

![]() As I mentioned on ATR on Friday, his effort in the Stanton @ DEL was better than it looks on paper (Check out the replay). I take the 1/2 glass full approach. I observed a horse that had an awkward start, made a premature move on the turn, and finished strongly including an impressive gallop out.
The connections must think highly of him as did Mandella (who had him on the West Coast earlier in the year) to enter him in this event. The outside post position doesn't bother me because of the long run to the clubhouse turn and Johnny V has enough savvy to put him in the best position to be successful. It's almost guaranteed that he'll be close to his 20-1 ML with division leaders Sailor's Cap and Gio Ponti bidding for favortisim. In addition, his low BSF will help his price. Along with Sailor's Cap, he's the only one that his visited the winner's circle at CNL.
