Default Almost very lucky

okay, had to share this story from my wagering day yesterday.

Tampa fifth race, its about 5min to post so I decide to play a super. I had earlier in the day ranked the fields for every race on separate sheets of paper. The mistake I made was that I picked up the paper with my sixth race rankings and played them on the fifth race. I didn't notice until Grunder starts calling out names of horses. WHAT? I realize my mistake immediately.

So naturally I start rooting for my numbers. who cares what horses they are , right?

Well my key horse was the 5, I needed the five to win. The 10 appears to be going gate to wire, although for awhile it looked like the 5 was going to make a run at him, by the time they were approaching the wire it was clear that it would come 10 -5. BUT HOLD ON! Nearing the wire the 10 gets freaked by a seagull and veers sharply, the rider bails out! The five inherits the win.

So I quickly start trying to find out the rest of the placings, I knew that some of the numbers I used were prominent but I just didn't care too much because I hadn't used the 10 anywhere. But with the 10 having taken himself off the board there is new hope. Could I actually be lucky enough to hit a super having bet the wrong race and getting help from a seagull??

The bottom line is the result was 5 - 1 - 7 -9 and it paid $7,276.80
I had 5 - 1 - 9 - 7 for 40 cents. How lucky would I have been to collect under those circumstances?

for further insult, the result of the sixth race was 8 - 3 - 9 - 5.
So my picks worked much better on the wrong race.

I still have nightmares from college english where one mispelled word was a letter grade off. I think it appropriate at this time to give a big shout out to SpellCheque!!!

Wow. That would have been a hit for the ages Jim.

My daughter had that 10 (because his name was Chubby, not because she is a good handicapper) and was slightly baffled when I told her she didn't win because the horse needs to carry the jock across the wire.

She was miffed for about 30 seconds, enjoyed the elusiveness of the 10 as they tried to round him up and went back to her Grape Tootsie Pop.

Great story.. One of the reasons I love this site..I don't have anyone close thats into horse racing and can share stories like that with. Too bad you did'nt cash in on that ticket... That would have topped the cake right there.

I hit the exacta in that race because I used the 5 on top. That was very bizzare. I didn't realize that it was a seagull that caused that horse to do that. That's pretty wild.

I had .20 cent left on my voucher when I got done with my plays yesterday, so used it on the 9th @ Gulfstream - 5-4-11-7/9 dime super, what comes out 5-9-11-4....should have just keyed the 5 with 4/7/9/11 and bang, a winner collecting $84.00 for my $2.40 wager. Just should have played it originally instead of throwing it in to finish off the voucher.

I was on track and there was no seagull anywhere near him. He just ducked in erratically once he cleared the 5 and dumped Gonzalez.

Good story Jim.
My question is, if it actually had come in, would you have embraced random supers as your new betting strategy?
