i read a few weeks ago that he had some sort of problem and didnt seem likely to make this race. suddenly, he was supposed to make it. this doesnt seem to surprising that he isnt going to run. there was talk for awhile about lewis michael being entered. that would have been interesting.

|
Corey Nakatani, scheduled to handle Corazondelcampeon in the race, was unseated in the paddock prior to the race and was replaced. After an initial exam in the track first aid station, Nakatani, regular rider of Lava Man, the early favorite in the $1 million Pacific Classic on Sunday, was taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla for x-rays of a possibly dislocated left shoulder. Nakatani also complained of sore thumbs.

As far as the "sore thumbs" go, my friend IC has it on high authority that Corey may have been trying to save a few bucks, given his performance at the current meet, when he was doing his own flexible sigmoidoscopy and was "unseated" from his next mount.
