![]() A UAE press release.....
No author listed. Discreet Cat clocked in three-furlong workout Unraced since the Dubai World Cup (Gr.1), Godolphin’s Discreet Cat took to the Saratoga Race Course main track on Monday morning for his first official timed workout prior to an anticipated return to competition, breezing three furlongs in :37.39. The easy exercise, the first of two timed workouts that assistant trainer Rick Mettee hopes to complete with the four-year-old son of Forestry before shipping him to Belmont Park, was ninth fastest of 13 moves at the distance on the dirt. Mettee has said the six-furlong Vosburgh Stakes (Gr.1) at Belmont on September 30 is a possible goal for Discreet Cat. But he also cautioned that Godolphin might opt to send the colt into a Breeders’ Cup race without a preliminary race. “He’d have to come around a lot between now and (the Vosburgh). He’s capable of doing that, as we found out last year. But he would certainly have to come on in the next 30 days quite a bit to justify going in against the sprinters that are going to be in there,” Mettee said during a media teleconference last week. Mettee said it is “a definite possibility” that Discreet Cat could start in a Breeders’ Cup race without a prep. He indicated that trainer Saeed bin Suroor and Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum have ruled out the 1 ¼-mile Breeders’ Cup Classic (Gr.1) in favor of either the Breeders’ Cup Sprint (Gr.1) at six furlongs or the new Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile. “We’d like to get a race in to him before that just to see where he is—just see how good he is again. He seems fine in his training and all, and he’s run well fresh, so, if he was just blowing us away in his morning works, I think Saeed and Sheikh Mohammed would probably be comfortable just going straight in the Breeders’ Cup,” he said. “But if we could get a prep into him, that would certainly be our preference.” Undefeated before finishing unplaced in the Dubai World Cup, with his victories including the 2006 UAE Derby (Gr.2) and the Jerome Breeders’ Cup Handicap (Gr.2) at Belmont, Discreet Cat has never competed at Monmouth Park, host of this year’s Breeders’ Cup. The colt was diagnosed as suffering from a throat abscess immediately following his effort in the Dubai World Cup. |

I'm certain a Cadeaux Genereux out of a Sadler's Wells mare won't enjoy really firm conditions. I will be amazed if he acts on firm ground. His best form has been achieved on good to soft and heavy turf........ something, which you guys will never see over in the States.
