The bad news for the colt is that his trainer probably viewed today's result as a reason to run the horse in the Preakness and Belmont.

Of course he did. The Triple Crown makes this guy completely insane. Remember Going Wild? His decision to run that colt in the Preakness after he had already shown in both the Wood and the Derby that he wanted no part of going 9f or beyond was absolutely ridiculous.
If FFC runs poorly at Pimlico, will that stop Lukas from running him at 12f in the Belmont? I doubt it.
I don't know if it the owners or Lukas are making the call on sending him to Pimlico, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if it is DWL's call. Why he can't see that this horse is a one-turn horse.....I'll never know. EVERYONE else on the planet can see it, but he can't.

everyone knows lukas' record in the the tc. i would guess he has been here enough times to know what he can, or can't get out of a horse. it's a shame that he is spotlighted for his glaring disappointments, rather than for those times he won, or came close. funny that now it's the going wilds who are mentioned, not the charismatics.

I don't think that is entirely true...how many times have you heard someone say you can't ignore lukas in a Stakes race? He does take a gamble with his horses though.

No question that he had a ton of success in the 80s and 90s. Nobody could dispute that. But his decisions over the last five to seven years regarding who to push into these races or on to the Derby trail have been poor. I don't see how anybody could dispute that either.

It is sad. He had a nice meet down in Tampa this winter in which he had those three straight victories, including a stakes win.
It makes me feel bad for Joan Scott and Pinebloom Stable.

I loved Charismatic.

Danzig, I agree, you can't take away what he accomplished the last two decades, but now he kind of reminds me of an aging "A list" movie star trying to still play the romantic lead roles. DWL doesn't have the stock he once did (for whatever reason; I don't know any of that kind of stuff) but I feel like he's so eager to still be there in the TC races that recently he puts in horses that don't have a chance to win because it's hard to let go of when he was the top of the game. My take on it, anyway. Lord knows I'm no psychologist, for which the psychology profession should be grateful.

Not, of course, that I'm thinking of any specific aging movie stars, of course.

How's filming on "Indiana Jones 4" coming, I wonder?

I was bummed when Charismatic was moved to Japan. Hope he does well at stud there. It's been what, two years?

Well, not really because he has no graded stakes earnings.
If, however, the Derby Trial was graded, I am confident that DWL would run him back in the Derby a week later.

True...with the move he made in the Arkansas Derby, I thought for sure he'd hit the board... but then flatten out.
That with today's victory would have been enough...and he would be added speed to the race.
