He is running on Feb 3 in the Canadian at Gulfstream where he is scheduled to meet English Channel.

They finished first and second in this race last year though Miesque's Approval had a much tougher trip and ran the best race.

Unless I'm mistaken and he's moving to Saskatoon.

Looking forward to the rematch.

Andy...what was tough about his trip last year? Deep closers like MA tend to create thier own problems with that running style, don't you think?

It was about 5000 replays ago....but.....I think he had major traffic issues early which caused him to get severly shuffled out of position. I will bring the replay up when they are running again.

I know I made a score with Miesque's Approval when he beat Artie Schiller at Keeneland in his next start because of the trip and my insane idea at that time that English Channel was the best turf horse in America.

I just rewatched the race for about the 50th time...If there is a troubled trip there for him...I am missing it.

Thanks...I see a horse in his normal early position (rear of the field) and when they made to the turn for home, he had clear sailing in the 4 path. IMO...he wasnt gonna get by EC no matter how far they ran.

Interested to read what you see.

BTW, Do you know whatever happened ot Artie Schiller? Last saw him at 'Toga (grade 2, I forget the name of the race). I'm guessing retired to the "good life" like the rest...

You're basically right, he had no real trouble, maybe a very brief steady back to last early on the backstretch, but other than being wide his trip was clean. I guess English Channel had a sweet on the pace trip, but they weren't crawling, and Miesque's Approval had to rally while wide the whole way from last, but I was wrong, he didn't have any trouble to speak of.

I think maybe everyone that ran back out of that race ran an improved race the next time they ran.

I'm grasping at straws here!

Andy....another thing I think that may need to be considered is that fact that this was MA's 3rd race since being moved to Wolfson. He ran in a small stakes race at Calder in late Dec. and then ran in the Sunshine Millions Turf (won at boxcar odds) in late Jan.

The Canadian was EC's first race since the BC Turf in late Oct....which would be a 4 1/2 month layoff.

No problem You know as well as anyone that I am EC's biggest fan...so there isnt too many of his races that I havent watched in excess of 25 times

But I do know you are much more adept at watching races than I....

I have no knock on English Channel, he's OK, but I would guess most Pletcher horses run very well fresh. I think his win that day was pretty good. And Miesque certainly proved his early season successes were no fluke.

I remember the Sunshine Millions quite well as I was there.

Im just glad he is back for another year of racing. He certainly had a 4yo year to be proud of...heres hoping he kicks even more ass this year.

I'm glad he's back as well but I just hope this year's turf races are a little more exciting. Seeing Cacique and English Channel square off over and over again, with no other real competition ( especially when Relaxed Gesture tanked after running so well in the Manhattan ), got pretty boring and then the Turf Classic was a horrendous race. Hopefully Showing Up will be strong this year and maybe one or two others will offer genuine competition.

Perhaps this will be the year Saint Stephen, now seven years old, finally puts it together!

AS is standing stud at Hurricane Hall, it's a new place in Lexington. Bellamy Road is also there.
