ROI Results 1/21 @ Fair Grounds

Fair Gounds treated us a little better than Gulfstream. Not a lot but better. Two players ran
to the wire together with Joly B closing strongly but he just missed at the wire. Four
winning bets were recorded on the day but there were a lot of swings and misses and
nobody figured out a chalky Lecomte. Who or what is a Lecomte? I could Google it but
there are far better history buffs in our group. Anyway Joly B did actually figure out the
featured 3 year old race. Starting with race 11 he hit winners in the pick 4 and when
Instant Coffee ran first in race 14 he was rewarded with a payout of $126.10. It was
however too little and too late. Zippy went all in on the first 4 races and sat back waiting
for challenges. Zippy nailed exacta's in races 1, 3 and 4 with the 4th race exacta paying
a nice $92. His $33.80 profit held up the rest of the long Louisiana afternoon. Congrats
on the win Zippy. Nicely played. Following are the results pending a brain cramp on my

Why is it called Lecompte?

Lecompte was named after a prize-winning race horse
that was owned by prominent local landowners the Wells family,
whose descendant, James Madison Wells,
was the 20th governor of Louisiana (from 1865-1867).

The horse itself was named for a Wells family friend
and horse breeder named Ambrose LeComte
(the "p" was added to the town's name later).
