Default Pletcher earns 2.16 mill on BC Day

Very funny to hear people talk about such a "tragic day" for Pletcher on BC Day. His stable earned 2.16 million that day, gee what a tragedy huh.

Im a big Pletcher fan but to use the figures to sugest he has a smile on his face is just an example of how to put a spin on someting negative to try to feel good about it.

I think many of those 17 had very little to no chance Hooves. He had several outrun their odds and only one I thought ran poorly was lawyer Ron, who i was expecting better things out of. Octave, Cotton Blossom, Friendly Island, Honey Ryder, English Channel all ran better than I thought.

when your the the 1000 lb gorella of stables you get the chance to have them do that....not hateing on pleacher ..loved frieindly island..then when i saw the way the track was running ..liked him even more..heres the thing .somebody stated that in the end having a elite 2/3 trainers is bad for the game equate it to baseball...if the yankees could buy any player at will and other teams players wanted to jump to the yanks..there wont be enough players left to field a team...ie will we see 5 x coupled races with 6 horses in...the other trainers/teams /game/ suffers as the biggest stables continue to grow..and the smaller operations fade away...

It's too bad I couldn't have bet on the thread where I said he would go winless on the day.

Not taking anything away from him, because he accomplished a lot on the day just saddling that many horses let alone having them hit the board.

I thought the relatively modest stables did great ... Catalano, Wolfson, Nafzger (old skool), etc.... I just think that the racing media obsesses on the big barns, who's being retired to breed and the sheiks, and struggles for interesting things to write about. Sure there's stories about these people this week, but in another week it will change back. If you want an example, take a look at the topic of Beyer's column today (though after needing to go two-deep to find Ouija Board and nothing else, it's probably a good idea for him to change the topic). And people seemingly follow the limited racing media fairly blindly. Nobody on this forum is starting threads about Catalano or Wolfson or, for that matter Douglas, Castro, Jara or even 2x winner Detorri. Horseplayers are just a jaded bunch, would rather criticize the way the track played or diss an owner for retiring a horse, etc,... rather than care about the positives.

I thought for sure he'd get at least two wins.

Pletcher is great during the year expect on 4 days. Any triple crown race and the Breeders Cup day. Not sure why. It is puzzling to me. I know that 2nd and 3rds are nothing to frown at in the big ones, but people dont send him those kinds of horses to finish 2nd or 3rd. I wonder how he really feels about not being able to do better in those races.

You mean like with Speightstown and Ashado? How many guys alive posess two BC wins or more? maybe 10-15? In case you didn't realize it hes only 38. Lukas, Zito, and Baffert were all approaching 50 or in their 50's when they got their first classic win. Frankel has 4 wins in the Bc in its history out of many starters. These races are damn hard to win, doesnt matter who you are.

I know he has 2, but I dont really feel he is happy with that number based on the number of starters he has had. Madella won more in one day than Pletcher has in his life. In addition, he hasnt won the Classic. I think it is awesome that he has two, but I think that Pletcher is disappointed in that number.

Sorry, but money or no money, Pletcher had a "Bobby Frankel type" day. You can't go 0-17, have one of your horses be hurt and think that is a good day.

Pletcher can't win on the big days, it is that simple.

The guy is 0-51 in triple crown races and something like 2 for 40 in the Breeders Cup.

That is a total of 2 wins in something like 91 starts on the two big days.

Give Pool Land a second head start and the one post and she still wouldn't have won. That horse needs everything to go its way to have a chance and a second head start still wouldn't have even covered everything.

Kieran McLaughlin earned over 3 million with 1 horse.

Default pletcher

He's 2 for 41 in Breeders Cup and both wins were at Lone Star Park. A great trainer but like a great Quarterback, he needs to show bigger on the grandest of stage
