Default Pegasus up to $16 Million

DWC is supposed to up its purse as well. Should keep more American horses in training for a couple more races anyways. Those numbers are gonna be too good to pass up.

They didn't lose enough money on the race this year?

I am not sure I understand how this works. So you buy a slot for $1,000,000 but you get back $650,000 in "purse" money regardless of where you finish. Doesn't that, in reality, lower the purse and make the buy in $350,000?

I thought it was 250k for 4th - 12th plus there is an arrangement for a % of gate handle, wager handle, etc.

That's actually a great point, Paul. I hadn't even thought of that. It's not a $16 million race, it's actually more like roughly $8 million. Not that it's chump change, but it's essentially "phonied" up by nomination money that isn't really coming into play.

Interesting. Thanks.

Check is made out to Arrogate already.

Hard to believe that the Dubai Sheikhs haven't raised their prize to go past the Pegasus. I thought they wanted to the worlds richest race.

I wondered why they didn't announce the purse for the new DWC, 2 weeks ago after the WC.
