Default Ogygian 1983 - 2015

Per Old Friends, Ogygian was euthanized Saturday evening due to complications from colic.

He was my favorite pensioner at Old Friends, so I wrote a little tribute to him yesterday (with photos).

He leaves some very large shoes behind at Old Friends, and he will be missed by many.

I fell for the buzz surrounding Ogygian when he was a 2yo and stuck with him throughout his frustrating 3yo season. I was crushed after Danzig Connection beat him in the Pegasus.

I remember this horse when he was a young stallion, I want to say at Claiborne but that was a bit before I followed racing when he was on that track and was a long time ago.

Thank you. That was beautiful.

I liked this horse, but man, he had a lot of hype surrounding him.

I remember early in his career that someone associated with the horse, I think Nerud, said that they expected him to be worth $100 million as a stallion.

I am surprised he didn't do better at stud.

He had a half brother named Lookinforthebigone that I thought was a real killer. I think he got Lukas'd though after a short career.

He was one of the greatest putovers in modern racing history in his debut. Waited for that year's Jolley killer 2YO Mogambo to be entered, told everyone Roy was their best horse, and galloped at 27:1.
