Default Sam Houston Racepark

Can anyone fill me in on SHRP? I will be in Houston for about two weeks and plan on checking it out. Do they have a decent simulcast area? Admission fee? How much is a racing form? Etc. Thanks in advance.

SHRP has a decent simulcast area downstairs on the first floor called the Players Lounge. It's a Vegas style area with individual carrels and they are $3.

Admission is free during simulcast hours while there's live racing going on (Q's start Friday).

DRFs are wildly over-priced ($8.50) especially when you factor in that 3-4 tracks in it are crossed out on the front because they are not available for betting. There's a kiosk where you can print out individual cards for $2 and that will work better for you if you play 1-2 specific tracks.

PM me with any more questions.

Traffic on the Beltway can be a real bitch during rush hour, especially if you have to go anywhere close to IH45....290 and IH10 not quite as bad but they have their moments....best advice, stay at the track until 7PM or later

Yes, I've heard that from several people. I'll be there on the weekends only, so it shouldn't be as bad as a weekday.

If you win some money, I suggest a restaurant 10 minutes Northwest of the track on Hwy 249 called Peli Peli (South African cusine). Good Luck!

We try to go 4 or 5 times a year. We always get the finish line box seats. With admission and the seat, it runs like 12 per person. You can get box seats of 3 or 5.

It is a very very nice facility. Smoking is allowed only downstairs. DRF racing programs usually run between 3-7 dollars. Easy access getting to and from the paddock area to look at horses. Quarter horse racing will be going on when you come, as the throughbreds finished last weekend.

Have a good time!
