Default SUN - Gulfstream PK5/PK4 ; Hollywood PK6/PK4

Hollywood Park comes to an end today with a $122k PK6 Carryover that includes a mandatory payout. The one memory that I remember from Hollywood Park involved baseball legend Pete Rose. While working at the Palm Beach Kennel Club in the late 1990's I witnessed Pete Rose approach the mutual windows at the Paddock section (mostly geared towards high end horseplayers and horse owners that reside in the area) and place $2000.00 across the board wager on #2 at Hollywood. The problem began when Rose stated "Two thousand across the board on #2 at Hollywood". The young female mutual teller was used to working in the main section of the kennel club and dealt mostly with dog players. She mistakenly punch the bet for Hollywood Dog Track which had their first race going off simultaneously with a later race at Hollywood Park. The 2 did not hit the board at either track and Rose was furious when he notice the mistake. He demanded his $6k back and would not take no as an option. Eventually, the track gave in and gave him a refund. The young mutual teller was forced to pay back for half the bet ($3K). Rose left with a departing comment, "Maybe she'll learn a lesson and realize who I am". At the time, Rose had a radio show in nearby Boca Raton and the kennel club did not want the negative publicity.

Thanks, bahughes - Yeah, I'm sure it's still own by the Rooney's (Pittsburgh Steelers Family). They're good people.

It is still owned by the Rooney family, and is a great facility.

Funny, I've had the same mistake happen to me and I never requested my money back (a lot less than $6K though).

I learned a long time ago never to give back mistaken tickets!!!

Years ago, my brother gave back a $5 tri box at Pompano Park and cashed on an exacta box for $1,200 instead of the $18,000 winning bet he just moments earlier returned!!! Although he won, he commiserated the remainder of the evening......

PBKC is a fun place to bet.

I never cancel tickets that are $20.00 or less. I've seen similar situations to your brother's costly decision.

River Seven dominated the Harlan Holiday (Track record) - I would love to see him the G1 Donn next. Hopefully, Mucho Macho Man makes his 2014 bow in the Donn as well. Maybe Palace Malice connections change their minds and go in the Donn instead of heading to Fair Grounds. I'm already looking forward to that weekend in South Florida.
