I remember him well at Monmouth but my most best memory was from the 1981 Travers in the pouring rain with my friend to watch Lord Avie get left in the gate and spot the field over 20 lengths only to close and lose by 1 1/2 lengths and finish 3rd. As always I had bet him to win and place.
Eclipse Champion Lord Avie Dies at 34 Lord Avie, the champion 2-year-old male of 1980, died Dec. 28 at Blue Ridge Farm near Upperville, Va.
