![]() One of the things that has struck me through the recent spate of articles from the NY Times is how defensive and seemingly offended Joe Drape has been when anyone has had the nerve to question his knowledge of the sport. If this recent tweet of his is any indication, he should drop the act:
"Saint Ballado never one [sic] anything of note and was a half ass sire." "A half ass sire"??? Saint Ballado went to stud after a decent racing career (Grade II winner of $300,000) and initially stood in Florida for $2,500. His succeess in Florida led to him being relocated to Taylor Made in Kentucky. At the time of his premature death in 2002 (at age thirteen), he stood for $125,000. He was North America's leading sire by progeny earnings in 2005, and among the 70 stakes winners that he produced were 2005 HOY Saint Liam, multiple champion Ashado, Met Mile winner Yankee Victor, Captain Bodgit, Sunriver, Sister Act, Flame Thrower, Straight Man and Star Dabbler. I wonder when the retraction is coming. |

![]() I think it's roughly 1/20 that he was drunk when he wrote that.

![]() That was my view as well. He gets really combative on Twitter when people give him s.hit. He's really pathetic.

![]() Nothing says pathetic quite like Twitter.
It's where the twat meets the sh!tter. I have pretty low standards, but one thing even I will never do is start a twitter account. |

![]() You can pick up sluts and score boobies pics on Facebook.
Twitter is basically Internet text messaging...every page I've ever looked at makes the creator of said page look like a huge douche. |

![]() Not sure if that can be offered as an excuse for Drape. In his world, alcohol is probably a performance enhancer.

![]() (Seriously, people on an internet board complaining about Facebook. The unintentional meta is sheer brilliance.) And yes, Drape is an idjit. But what do you expect from a paper that pays David Brooks and Ross Douthat to spew drivel on a regular basis?

I can understand if you're doing twitter for purposes like BTW, Byk, Travis, Pat, and NTamm etc. If not, what's the point? If I wanted to read a bunch of short thoughts -- I'd buy Jack Handy. "I can picture in my mind a world without war, a world without hate. And I can picture us attacking that world, because they’d never expect it." Now, that's brilliant. Basically, it all boils down to people believe they're interesting enough that they feel the need to update the world on their current doings... they aren't. Well, other than Randy Moss anyway. And Randy Moss basically dedicates his entire twitter existance to the two loves of his life ... fish and homeless people. If Moss has a digital camera handy, and he comes across either a fish or homeless person, it's a lock he's getting a picture and posting it on twitter to add to his numerous collection. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

In theory, people who come here should prefer substantive discussions and arguments about horse racing and other issues of the day. These forums should be places to go for important matters -- like to debate the merits of the top horses in training and to discuss and analyze past and future races. Facebook is where people should go for less important stuff like talking about jockeys, dishing out hyperbole about the greatness of Zenyatta, and calling Todd Pletcher a f@ggot. |
