Default MTH, MED deals finalized; Bailey begins to plan future

Monmouth Park, Meadowlands lease arrangements finalized
By Mike Farrell

Monmouth Park and the Meadowlands will have new operators on June 1.
Agreements were hammered out late Thursday night at the end of a day-long negotiation session in Trenton, N.J. to privatize the two tracks. For the first time since 1976, the state of New Jersey will not be in the racetrack business. Under lease agreements reached after marathon talks involving the new lessees, the associations representing the state’s Thoroughbred and Standardbred horsemen, and the governor’s office, Morris Bailey will take over Monmouth and Jeff Gural will run the Meadowlands. The state will continue to own the land and facilities.

So...from a practical standpoint, what's going to be the difference at these two facilities?

Now that the state and casinos are supposedly out of the racing business, does that mean some day we will have more options besides 4njbets.com for online?

I would think no.
If you were the one making the deal with the state, wouldn't you like to have some sort of exclusive deal like the one that currently exsists?

But that's just my guess.

"Bailey also has plans to upgrade on-line and account wagering while giving wider exposure to Monmouth races on cable television."

I love the sounds of this. Thank God. Scrap 4NJBets.com and build a real platform.

I wish there was some way to allow us to use other ADWs so we could take advantage of their perks and contests. We get absolutely nothing but a headace for using the 4NJBets POS.

This type of guy owning MTH is the only thing that makes me wish (if only for a moment) that I didn't move away.

Really? I used to be one of the most vocal critics of njBets but haven't had a problem in a few years. My only complaint is that they don't carry NYRA feed which is solved by getting a subscription to HRTV.com. I've had no issues on big Days (Derby,Preakness,Belmont and Breeders Cup). What are your complaints?

I agree.

I'll admit that I have never had another betting platform, so I really don't know how NJBets measures up against others, but I have no complaints with the current platform. I have TVG so that's where I watch the NYRA races (I would watch them there even if NJBets carried them).

My only wish would be that they had some sort of rebate program, otherwise I'm very content with the product.

I think the interface is totally antiquated. I agree that it does technically work, but it needs a facelift badly. Compared to say, Xpress Bet, it looks like it was designed by a college student in 1995. Furthermore I think the video feed stinks, quality wise. I'm no HTML expert, so I don't know if anything can be done about that. But I'm guessing it's posible.

So basically you don't like the interface so it is a POS and gives you headaches?

remember that as long as you deposit at a track or favorites OTB everything is FREE on nj bets. i have never paid 1 penny for having my account unlike TVG who takes money from you everytime you punch in a bet.

i'll take free over that anytime. i dont need the site to be complex. just let me place free wagers and i'm fine.

Agreed. I've been using it quite oiften since NYC OTB is gone and have gotten quite used to it.

I've even "mastered" the phone wagering so to speak. With an IPAD and TV on the deck, all I need is someone walking my beers over.

last week i was without a computer and racing TV channels for the week while at the N.J. shore.
although i made it to Favorites twice i was still bored and wanted to place some bets. i bought the daily news and was picking horses blind and wagering over the phone.

i didn't see any of the races but i ended up 7 bucks ahead at the end of the week! sometimes less really is more!

Does this mean the end of them being a TVG exclusive? Tonight the first four races tonight Meadowlands were on streaming video only. I thought the MTH and M1 contracts required all races to air on the net?
