Okay so the jockey category is pretty guaranteed to have a racing winner, but technically the Sports Movie and Biggest Upset categories are up for grabs. "Secretariat" is in the first, Blame beating Zenyatta is the second. Vote here: http://espn.go.com/espys/#!/voting/ or www.Facebook/ESPN. If I had to guess, we'd be pulling an upset by winning either category, esp. when The Fighter was an Oscar contender and VCU busted a lot of brackets, but hey, it's worth a shot.

secretariat...my sister, who knows nothing whatsoever about horse racing tried to educate me about secretariat, based on what she had learned from the movie.
when i started talking about syndications, riva ridge, supporting a stallion with mares, etc, etc, her eyes glazed over and she left.

I didn't think Blame beating Zenyatta was an upset at all.

Yes, but I've found that Diane Lane telling anybody anything pretty much keeps their attention. That's where you went wrong. Have Diane explain quantum physics or stamp collecting, and your sister will be riveted.

Right now, the "Bernardini and Zenyatta got married !!1!!11!" 'posting to Z as if she typed the messages to her fans herself' people are peacefully knitting little booties for Zenyatta's 2012 baby. I'm just trying to motivate them just enough to vote for the ESPYs, not turn into the Incredible Hulk.

well, i think she was already irritated with me when i corrected her at the beginning of her discussion about the 'snopes monkey trial'. i said, it's scopes. no, she said, snopes. i said snopes is a website...at any rate, she conceded the point when i googled snopes monkey trial and it returned results saying 'scopes'. yeah, she's the bright one of the family.
