Default 70's and 80's photos Life's Hope-Slewpy-Rose's Cantina

We are moving from the sublime (Easy Goer, Precisionist) to the obscure. I'm sure someone will come up with a memory or two with some of these.

Once again, enjoy!

Great Above with Steve Cauthen 1977 (The day of the first Turf Classic with Johnny D beating Majestic Light and Exceller. Caesar's Wish also beat Lakeville Miss by 6 lengths in the Demoiselle.

Live Oak's Medieval Man finished second to Patriot's Dream

Life's Hope before winning the 1978 Haskell (the same day Affirmed and Alydar met at Saratoga for the final time in the Travers)

Wise Philip with Don Brumfield

1981 Derby favorite Proud Appeal before the 1981 Jerome. That's Jimmy Picou looking at him and Jan Nerud walking to the stall to saddle Maudlin.

Pass the Tab. That's Laz Barrera to the right with the teal tie looking at Lemhi Gold.

Slewpy before the 1982 Hopeful with Jeffrey Fell.

Kelso before leading out the 1983 Jockey Club Gold Cup with Forego. The strain was too much as he died the next day.

Mt. Livermore defeating Fighting Fit and Ziggy's Boy in the 1985 Vosburgh.

Demons Begone

Fran's Valentine. Her owner was Earl Scheib. "I'll paint any car any color for $ 99.95!!!" Of course YOU had to tape up the chrome and windows and tires and antenna and anything else you didn't want painted

Cutlass Reality before the 1987 Bold Ruler...Went from useful stakes placed/allowance horse in NY to world beater in California under Craig Lewis a year later defeating Alysheba, Gulch and Ferdinand.

What better way to end the "Me" decade with Houston. He would finish second to Sewickly in the 1989 Tom Fool. I believe Wayne Lukas paid 2.9 million on behalf of Hatley, French and Beal.

This was my puzzle for the day. I think it is Vilikaia. There was an entry and a mutual field. Al Sylah was part of the field, usually the last betting #, 12 in this case.

And I have the picture of Al Sylah. He is sporting the Shadwell colors. Will post it tonight.

Great pics. Thanks for sharing even if they do make me realize how much racing in 2011 sucks.
