Default When is Tiago coming back?

Any word on when he returns? He isn't nominated to the Hollywood Gold Cup so it can't be there. He's never run at Del Mar before, so I don't know if Sheriffs would try him at that surface this time.

Two race campaign (Goodwood and BC Classic) and then retirement maybe?

He's the perfect example (as are the Shug horses going to California) of why owners need to adapt with the times and have a trainer on each coast. It makes no sense to have synthetic horses with a trainer on the east coast and have dirt horses with a trainer on the west coast. Employ one on each coast and move the horses to the surface that suits them.

When he does it will be too late. Story of his life and whatnot.

Dont get me started, guy is so much better on dirt. He is not elite or anything but he is better on that surface.

He hasn't worked in over a month.

As far as him being a different horse on dirt versus synthetics, I'd beg to differ. In his two major dirt wins (the Santa Anita Derby and Oaklawn Hcp) he defeated King Of The Roxy and Heatseeker (who was everyone's poster child for the "Synthetics Made Me Into A Good Horse" movement). He floundered in all his other dirt starts (which all happened to be his most important--ie Kentucky Derby, Belmont, and BC Classic).

As opposed to worrying about what surface he was running on, I'd rather see what he could do with a cutback to a flat mile (or even 7f).

A BC Dirt Mile-Cigar Mile double would satisfy everyone, I suppose, unless someone wants him on grass.

well I agree about the distance part of your argument...I think its funny you say his two major dirt wins....those are the only major wins the horse has really had.

I'd say the Goodwood was somewhat major...it was on the lightning fast cushion track I remember, before they replaced it with pro ride.

Come on. The recent history of both the Swaps and Goodwood reads like a laundry list of subsequent Big Cap, Dubai World Cup, and BC Classic winners.

Swaps is an Alw race in reality, nw2x usually.....the Goodwood has its ups and downs, I remember the field Tiago beat that day, it was so bad I think he was about 8/5 in the field as a three year old who was an also ran in the triple crown races.

Tiago beat subsequent BC Dirt Mile and Donn winner Albertus Maximus in his Swaps. I think the most accomplished horses he ended up beating in the Santa Anita Derby that year were the decent turf horse Medici Code and sprinter Black Seventeen.

The Swaps has always been a very productive race. Even last year, while Tres Borrachos didn't train on, Two Step Salsa and Colonel John have remained in the spotlight. The most modest runnings perhaps were Arson Squad's victory (and even he's been threatening to reach top class status) and During's a few years ago.

I think Shirreffs is afraid of the surface, has he started a horse on the main track yet? Where are all his two year olds?
