Default NYRA plans Saratoga TV shows

The New York Racing Association will produce five one-hour television shows during the course of the Saratoga racing season that will air on MSG-Plus, a regional network that is available on satellite outlets. The programs will offer live coverage of the graded stakes races to be run on five of the six Saturdays of the meet.

It is also expected - though as of Thursday not finalized - that NYRA will do a show covering next Saturday's Wood Memorial at Aqueduct. That one-hour program would also include live coverage of the Grade 1 Carter Handicap.

By opting to produce its own telecasts, NYRA eschewed the possibility of having some of Saratoga's Saturday races shown nationally on ESPN.
"ESPN was not as many Saturdays, wasn't a regular feature, wasn't quite as extensive," said Hal Handel, NYRA's executive vice president and chief operating officer. "This was a good time to reinforce the relationship we have with MSG; it's certainly no slap at ESPN.

The shows will feature NYRA in-house talent including Jason Blewitt, Eric Donovan, Jan Rushton, and Andy Serling.

I actually like the new combo, I hope it stays this way. I never pay attention to those guys but you can actually learn something from those two guys, they don't just throw a bunch of picks out there 4 deep, they give you actual reasoning, which to me, it more important then the picks.

Light years ahead of any other track/circuit's in-house shows.

But only because PID canned this guy after his stellar solo performance during the '07 race meet.

The only thing that could be worked on would be a Jessica Pachenco type sidekick that is only allowed 30 seconds each race to speak.

This is great, it is not like MSG shows anything other than NYRA that is watchable. Now Andy in High Def . . . .

I'm not sure I have msg-plus . I will be interested to see if these shows can equal the ESPN live shots of the private boxes with the hilarious or bummed, whatever the case may be, connections .

I have a feeling it may be available on the NYRA youtube channel, I would check nyra.com when they come out and see if you can access on the internet.

I do have msg-plus as part of my std cable pkg . I'm looking forward to the festivities . I can see it now, Andy's picks from pool side or from the NYRA Blimp overhead . Then back to the Carolina BBQ patio for more and thence into the paddock with Jan . And close ups of the private boxes after the race . Gimmee the keys to that satellite van .

If she does go to the Spa, maybe MSG can get Maylan to do the 30 second spots. She should have plenty of free time on her hands.

Maylan is just one of many fine bug riders I've seen so far at this AQU meet.

If Pablo Fragoso is 2-for-57 this year - and Vic Carerro is 0-for-25 at Tampa and hasn't won a race in two years ... I hate to see where some of these bugs riding in NY right now might end up.
