Default Random Red Rock thoughts..

* While I'm strategizing over how to manage a tinkle, two slices of pizza, the hot waitress and 15 races, Paul manages to do all of the above AND hit the Magna 5...man...

* Nick ( NTAMM) needs to do much more posting as he is a serious player and a super guy. Glad he smokes as that made him hang with the rif-raf and allowed me to sidle up and grabs bits of wisdom. The dude knows his stuff..

* Congrats to the NTRA winner, but you are Joe Peschi...just admit it...

* NCHeels..aka.Dave..Do you ever let anyone know you will be in the house?..Good seeing you and hope you did well today.

* Jill Byrne....Yes

* Scav...Thank you for the support and the sheet navigation...

* Rene Douglas..blow me

* BIGSMC...Thnx and you know why

* Cannon..Congrats and you know why

My eyes were burning also. Major hotness.

Jill Byrne - double yes

First tourney entry today. Horrid results.

Great atmosphere at the Red Rocks and very happy to hang with Bob and Paul for part of the afternoon yesterday. Sorry I didn't get to meet Nick. Very solid showing by the DTers.

Onto blackjack and craps 2nite.

The Vegas dream is over for now as I'm back home and away from the contest circuit.

I'm thrilled that I got to meet Bob and Paul, both terrific guys and excellent handicappers.

The experience was outstanding, as any of you can imagine. We were treated very nicely by the NTRA members who were on-site, the Red Rock employees, and anyone else associated with the tournament. It's a first-class event without question.

The Red Rock Race & Sports Book is outstanding and if it's not the best in Vegas, it's up there. The rooms were beautiful and the ultra-modern decor and setup is very cool.

Now that the whole thing is over, there's only one small detail left and that's figuring out how to qualify for 2010.

It was a great tournament made even better by getting to spend time with fellow DTers. I finished a respectable 43rd overall which was a personal best and the big Magna 5 score certainly was a thrill.

To those here who have never played in handicapping contests you are missing the boat. Contests are the best bet in racing as many allow you to overcome the biggest obstacle to winning in this game--namely takeout. Many contests even have positive expectations.

Beyond that, playing in the NHC is a thrill beyond description. This was my fourth one and the thrill doesn't get any less.

I urge everyone to join the NHC tour and try to get a spot in next year's event.

Paul

I'm glad you guys have fun! Sounds like a great time, and a big challenge.

I wish qualifying was easier... in that it was more accessible.

For someone like me, I'm tied to LAD from January until March, and May until October. Factor in some holidays and meet-prep time, very little wiggle room.

I understand there are many on-line contests that get you in. Anyone know where to get a list? There's something like 20-30 online ways to get there.

I'm definately going to try this year. Hearing the stories from you guys and my friend Fred, it's a must do.

Last year was first try at tournaments. Looking forward to hitting a few this year too. It is very exciting, the crowd is awesome. Can't wait to do it again.

I can't even imagine what it must be like in Vegas. I've yet to qualify for one of those.

Thanks for asking,

Not attempting to hijack the thread, but wanted to share a Vegas story from last nite.

Location: MGM Craps table

Guy on one end of the table rolls the dice for over 30 mins. Husband and wife on other end of the table playing separately go on the most incredible run I have ever witnessed in person. The wife cashes in for over $20 GRAND and her husband's final total was over $49 GRAND.

Dave, not as good, as my final tally was a mere $300.
