In foal to Ghostzapper. I'm a little confused. I mean I get there's a point where it becomes particularly profitable to sell a mare (e.g. she's just had a huge winner) or you're convinced it's all downhill from here cuz she's hard to get in foal, something along those lines. I mean I can use my business head and understand why valuable mares sell without getting emotional. It's just, I don't understand why you'd sell her so soon. I mean this isn't just some mare and supposedly Paulson liked how Vallenzeri turned out. I thought this was some beloved family member he just had to hold onto. I guess there's a limit to the love? It just took me by surprise is all. Who are we gonna guess takes her? And what are we talking about in terms of price? |

![]() he didn't want to sell vallenzeri, so it makes sense to sell her. you gotta do what you gotta do.

![]() I think breeders might be afraid to buy Azeri because she didn't race until late in her 3yo season and I learned that it means she is way more likely to break down and maybe she will pass along her likelyness of breaking down to future offspring.
or maybe she was always sound but just took a really long time to figure out how to run since its complicated for some horses and breeders dont like breeding slow learning dummies. that could be Zenyatta's downfall. she sold dirt cheap as a baby even though shes a Street Cry half sister to the awesome mare Balance because buyers must have known that Zenyatta was very likely to break down because she didn't race until her 3yo season and buyers dont want to buy horses who dont race at 2 and are more likely to break down. either that or they didnt want to spend any more for Zenyatta because they knew she was a slow learning dummy who would take forever to figure out how to run. it is all making sense to me all of a sudden. |

![]() Azeri and Sightseek at Saratoga is still one of the greatest races I have ever seen.

![]() I dont think Sightseek debuted until Aug of her 3yo season. shes another who had a real high likelyness of breaking down or was just a really slow learner.

Sh Mo makes more money from his real estate holding than oil. His holdings in oil are relatively small. I say they are trying to establish a price and wont sell. As for Zenyatta being cheap, look at when she sold. In Sept of 05, Balance was a maiden winner and Street Cry hadn't let the world on fire. Most people figured that Street Cry's would get better with age and distance but in terms of sales price (a function of brilliance) they SC's were not selling for huge money. The costs assosiated with a late developer mean lower prices at sales.

![]() Frankel was winning everything in sight during those yrs, if he sent out a donkey it would have probably been a graded stks winner. Azeri raced under two pretty mediocre trainers to be nice, and considering what she done on the track given the circumstances her career was quite remarkable I thought.
