Former Hong Kong racecaller David Rafael is recovering in hospital after a seizure on Saturday evening in Hong Kong.

The seizure was first thought to be a stroke however a Victorian based friend, and colleague, David Miles reported on Sport 927 yesterday that it was not the case and that after serious initial concern for Rafael his health was improving.

Miles, a harness driver, said that he had been in touch with Rafael’s wife Priscilla.

“I have been in contact with her over the past 24 hours and I can say that things are looking a hell of a lot better than they were yesterday,” Miles said.

“He was showing stroke symptoms, but in the last 24 hours they have started reducing his medication and his vital signs have improved out of sight, and he is back on the road to recovery.

“He is starting to be a lot more with it, so all the signs are very positive over the last 24 hours.

“It is great to see that things might turn out okay,” he said.

Miles thanked all the well-wishers who had contacted him regarding Rafael’s health and for their concern.

“I can let everyone know that things are looking up,” he said.

Rafael hosted the VRC’s Flemington broadcasting channel over the past couple of Flemington Spring Racing Carnival weeks.
