![]() BloodHorse.com has just started a fun little contest to choose the "Greatest Thoroughbred of All-Time" contest. 32 paired names to start with, and you pick the fave of the 16 matchups they give you. You can try this link -- http://www.bloodhorse.com/march-into-may/Play.aspx but if that does not work, just go to BloodHorse.com and noodle around till you see the "March into May" header.
Just reading the bios for each horse is a treat. But why include Alydar? He was a good one but Affirmed was the superior one of that generation. Its not like Alydar was better sprinting or on the turf. I feel very lucky to have seen Affirmed, Seattle Slew, Spectacular Bid, John Henry and Sunday Silence. I'll be rooting for them but the smart money will be on Secretariat to win it all. |

![]() This is kinda fun. I thought seeding Phar Lap 6th sounded funky though until I realized it's similar to how he fits on the top 100 list they did (not that he should've been that low but whatever). I agree the bios are neat and Affirmed should place higher than Alydar. Is the argument that these are the 32 greatest or something? I don't think it would've killed them to include Ruffian for pete's sake so they should've done the 64 with a play-in or something instead of 32 in order to fit her (she's 35th on the Bloodhorse list which is here for them what wants to see it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood-H...e_20th_Century ).
Let's not get Somerfrost upset by pointing out the lack of Kicsem okay? Clearly nobody's gonna appreciate her. Just a quick question, semi off-topic, but does anybody with an interest in Australian racing figure 'the Diva' will ever be included on any of these lists? I'm gonna go back to comparing Spectacular Bid and Nashua. I already know how I'm gonna vote but as I said, the bios are fun. PS. I've decided not enough people appreciate Colin. When Man O'War was running, two horses people would gasp to hear you compared to were Sysonby and Colin. I guess they're too old school. Last edited by Merlinsky : 03-28-2008 at 11:53 PM. |

![]() i checked it out this morning. a couple of matchups were tough, and i didn't agree with how the majority voted on a couple. buckpasser isn't better than cigar??
i voted for round table over damascus, and that voting is VERY close. i think they could have found a better horse to include than alydar, but... went for gallant fox over count fleet as well, also not the majority vote. i just hope i don't do as poorly in this as i did in ncaa!

![]() Sunday Silence received a horrible draw being matched against the mighty Citation in the first round. Despite the fact that Citation is almost certainly one of the top five horses of the twentieth century, I had to pull the trigger on the Sunday Silence upset.
My other BIG upset is Nashua over Spectacular Bid. |

![]() Phar Lap got a pretty rough draw also... Also, I didn't pay that much attention, but were there any fillies in the draw?

![]() I spent over an hour going through the first round matchups. I really enjoyed looking over each horses PP's.
I was also a little surprised Ruffian wasn't given a spot. She deserved one. |
