![]() Does anyone know where I can watch the video of this race. Youtube does not have it.
This is one of my favorite races of Jerry Bailey. Congaree was 2-5 ridden by Gary Stevens and chased Love for money (i think that was the horses name)at a fast pace for 6 furloungs while Bailey waited chilly on Scorpion behind them. Congaree was almost used up by the 3/8 pole and Love for Money was rerallying as they came down the stretch. Meanwhile AP Valentine in fourth with Chavez aboard was winding his whip windmill style and gaining. Still Bailey was just waiting and waiting and then started to pounce on the leaders with a furloung to go. AT this time Love for money re-took the lead from Congaree but was overtaken by a charging Scorpion. Scorpion was not a super horse nor a good horse. Scorpion had not won a race in over 16 months till that time and never won a race after that. Surprisingly Scorpion was 13-1 that day and if it wasnt Bailey riding it would have been 50-1. And no I did not bet this horse cause I was too young at that time |

I remember a large gasp from the crowd when Free Of Love retook the lead. Congaree had wrenched his knee but had zillions on him to show. He bravely hung on for 3rd saving the many bridgejumpers. I was at the rail when Scorpion turned it on and my cheers turned to groans with every stride he took to close on Free Of Love. You can painfully reminisce by clicking on the p[ic with Free Of Love on the rail. http://www.pedigreequery.com/free+of+love |
