Default Go back to sleep, there's nothing to see here

From Ed Fountaine's article in today's NY Post:

http://www.nypost.com/seven/11102007...ocs_740077.htm

Quote:
Trainer Donna Wormser was fined $1,000 and suspended for 30 days by the State Racing and Wagering Board after her horse Star for a Day tested positive for Clenbuterol winning 11th race at Saratoga on Travers Day, Aug. 25. Star for a Day paid $57.50, was part of a pick 4 that returned $1,025 with favorites winning the other three legs. Wormser has been granted a stay on appeal.
That bleepin horse destroyed me on Travers Day... closing from dead last, like a rocket.. I went back over that race numerous times to see if I had missed anything. Apparently what I missed was not readily visible.

So a $20 bet on the winner would take care of the fine. A $100 bet would make the 30 days time-out a lot less painful.

This one really stinks. Putover of the decade, on Traver's Day, with the massive connections heading to the Winner's Circle somewhere between the 3rd race and the eighth pole....and the horse came from the clouds.

And they wait 2 1/2 months to make this ruling??? I don't know when they did the testing, but if it was done and announced within a week, let's say, the emotions would be running much hotter. Do you think the delay is intentional for that very reason? So they can sneak it in and hope few people notice, or remember?

They test following the race. And in most cases if the test comes up positive you will be notified usually within the week. depending on the jurisdiction. You then have the opportunity to get the sample retested at another lab at your own expense. The racing boards do drag these positive cases on way to long. They can usually make these public within the month, but for reasons only known to themselves and the guilty parties, it is usually takes a couple of months.

The late double, on Traver's Day, was under the parlay I believe.

Oh yeah, the horse made one subsequent start, on October 17th at Keeneland, and was vanned off.

This stinks.

Man, you're not kidding, that's about as bad as it gets for sticking this drug shiat in the face of the horse player. What the hell can we do about this.......I guess just lose money.

I spent more time talking about this horse the following morning at Siros than I did discussing the Travers.

Sadly it is no more disgraceful now than it was then. The only difference is that now we have actual proof.

One very observant friend also told me this horse was not saddled by the "trainer" of record, but a regular NY circuit. I guess he was really duped...NOT!

I do not condone the race day use of drugs on horses in any manner and would fine the seriously fine the trainer on the first positive, and ban them for ten years or so on the second.

But this horse was not impossible off the racing form. In fact Steve Crist, I believe, had the pick six and included this horse because of race shape and several over par races.

The horse was a stakeswinner facing one x foes.. Was dropping substantially in class and only one or two others in the field had ever hit the board in the one X class. Star for a Day had never not cashed a check in a one x except the race where it was wiped out at the start and then had to take time off.

Many on this board routinely bet NY with the Dutrows, Contessa, Lake et.al ...and they are not exactly altar boys...to each its own BBB

It was not impossible of the racing form? Please, nearly any horse can be made a winner after the race. Regardless, it doesn't freaking matter anymore, the connections cheated and have been caught. Those that said the race smelled funny were right.

I am pleased to hear you don't condone race day drugs, however.

Steve Crist included this horse as a C, one of nine total he used in the race, and hit the Pick-6 that day only because one of his A horses won every other race that day. See, unlike you, he knows how to bet to win multi-race wagers. He, in this case, was able to cash because he gave himself at least one opportunity to be wrong and still win.

On the second highlighted part......huh? Who is defending the people you mentioned and how is it relevant to the discussion other than to say " this person cheated just like I ( being BBB ) believe these others cheat, so what's the big deal? "

As for the other post race redboarding....it fails to mention the field the horse was racing against so at the very best it is just an attempt to try and discredit the thoughts of the very poster who has completely discredited you on this board.

exactly what does this mean? that everyone should just shrug and say 'oh well. no doubt i've won bets from cheaters, who cares if i lose due to cheating'?? that's insane. or that bettors deserve to lose to a cheat on their bets if they've ever bet a horse that's been trained by a someone with positives in their past?

no wonder you get so much grief from so many on here. you're certifiable.

It takes too long to hand down the punishment. The punishments should increment up in severity. The trainers should do time in Goochland.

This is typical of the pace of announcements from the NYR&WB. The delay in handing down a ruling is par for the course, not intended to hide anything. When Pletcher's SPA positive was announced they were already on the Inner Tube!
