Default Any idea - Melbourne Cup?

Is it easy to get to and easy to get a ticket? How many Austrailian Dollars does it cost to get in and get a good seat......

Also, do you have to bet with the bookmakers or do they have a parimutuel pool also?

scav, they have both down there, bookies and pari.. flemington is supposed to be quite easy to get to on the train from melbourne and like they do on most big events, they let them all in and worry about things later.. alot of people have said that while the Melbourne Cup is class and a huge event, to really see Flemington and the Spring Carnival at its best, you should go the previous Saturday or at least a non-first Tuesday of the month..

Yeah the Saturday's the best day, all of the 10 races are G3 or better and I think 4 of them are G1.

The Tuesday is really focussed on the Cup itself, there's not much of interest in the other 9 races.

Anyone know when or if the rest of the races are going to be on TVG? I scrolled through the guide but didn't find anything.

And any aussies here, or maybe Ed the kiwi can tell me (I think it's Ed)......is it unseasonably warm there? I've been to Melbourne this time of year and it wasn't nearly as warm as it looked last nite. Really beautiful weather they had.

Never got to the racetrack, had to go to Phillip Island and do the fairy penguin thing. I just loved Australia, but really NZ was the best.

WOW... looked like a great party. I've been enjoying the Aussie racing this week.

General admission to Flemington yesterday was $50 AUSD. That would be about $35, I think. That is just to get into the park.
its similar in ireland and england too. youre usually paying at least 15euro into any racemeeting here. At Royal Ascot, general admission costs about US$100.

Thanks, didn't see the temp....that seems more to be what I experienced this time of year. Perhaps even a bit chillier, but we 1st went to Cairns then onto Sydney so it always seemed a bit chilly in Melbourne, early spring down under.

I caught last nites races toward the end, I keep forgetting it's on.
Having some beautiful weather and they sure look like they are having a good time. Fun coverage and I'm still waiting to hear them sing waltzing matilda......

When is the last day... tomorrow nite?
