Default Keeneland opening

Currently on the noon news in Lexington, rep from Keeneland, they are starting 10-cent superfectas, and 1$ superfecta "quick picks" for casual fans.

Horse racing should tap into the "numbers game" players. It's a good idea. I'd love to see NYRA work a deal with NY Lottery division to televise the races over the quick draw tv network. Buy your tickets 5 min. before the race starts, just like a regular quick draw game. then go back to quick draw until 5 mtp for the next race, etc.

Then they could just use virtual horses.

Sure. They could have pools like:

Odd/Even: Bet on the winner's saddle cloth # being odd or even!

Roulette: Bet on the total of the first three finishers numbers!

Over/Under: The thinking man's version of roulette! Bet on the total of the first three finishers numbers over or under a pre-set number!

it won't appeal much to people already playing, but for your slot machine/lottery type people it might catch on. All you have to say is 'quick pick" and line will form.

Maybe after three races the "quick pick super" folks will catch on, and start to try and handicap

why not? if people want to play a crook's game like Quick Draw, why not throw it in the pools instead? I like it

yup, and you could pick the exact order of finish for ALL entrants...(quick pick as an option)...or every other number in the order of finish...
this could be incorporated right within the quick draw games. it would also break the monotony of the quick draw balls floating up on that screen all day, every day.

And you wouldn't step on OTB toes because the traditional bets would still be reserved for the OTB/Online businesses.

we don't need anyone other than NYRA because we fans have lots of ideas to separate folks from their money in a fun way. and see the horses get their fair share from the handle

If they tried to sell folks on the idea of playing numbers using horses instead of ping pong balls it would be great. Lets say they hook up with the lottery and the numbers are from the last race of the day at NYRA. All bets are superfectas. You might get a few people who go home and watch the race to see what happens and of that group a few might find it interesting enough to try and find out about racing on it's own merit.
The plus for horseplayers is that there would be that much more uninformed money in the pools.

I like alot of the ideas in this thread. I remember this old lady when I lived in PA that would sink $50-100 into the lottery every day. I ask her once about betting the horses, and she said that she only liked the numbers games. No real thought into it.

People like that could help the pools, and would even have fun watching the horses...

oaklawn saved themselves when they introduced virtual racing--arkansas' legal version of slots at the track. some people complain that gambling is only allowed there and at west memphis, i counter with thank goodness they came up with something to keep that track in business!
