![]() i think it sucks. love dan patrick, love his radio show. i heard him say that he was leaving...and thought, what the hell? so tony and i go to chilis for a quick bite heading out of hot springs, and they announce that not only is he leaving his radio show (which is what i was hoping, staying with espn but not on radio) but he's leaving espn altogether. now who will i listen to in the afternoons????
i thought he was one of the best in the business, if not THE best. great interviews, great voice, great with voicing his opinions, and very knowledgable. i'll miss him.

![]() I had heard that he will be the next Bob Barker, hosting The Price is RIght. He was excellent on Sports Center for many years but I never liked the radio show. The opening of the radio show was often pompous and condescending as if he is the only one in the country that understood what the topic was that day. That being said, he was very good especially in the early years.

![]() Never was a big Dan fan.. Radio-wise, nothing beat the early years of the Kornheiser radio show in the late 90's/early 00's.. NOTHING. The on-air nonsense was great enough, but the core group of listeners on the Net were treated to some of the most hysterical, uprorious insanity I've ever heard, especially during the breaks when you could listen to Tony, Andy and Co., guests, etc.. "The Internet Show" was lost at one point when Tony got his "vacation", a month-long suspension over something idiotic that the ESPN suits got in a twist over. And "Phil the Show Killer" originated on The Mr. Tony Show... not on Dan Patrick's...
Anyone remember the Tony Show and these elements? The hilarity of "Know Your Heads", a game show where callers had to identify three levels of ESPN anchors.. SportsCenter types.. then an ESPN2 type.. then an ESPNews type.. Rich Eisen telling the "Bea Arthur joke".. An Internet-only classic that will NEVER die... The callers were unbelievable... "Smart and funny" was what Tony wanted.. Steve the Syncophant, from DC... "Tony my leige..." Sheldon and his ridiculous Joke of the Day.. "Affirmation"... Only loyal listeners will know this reference... I called in with an "affirmation" story that pleased Tony to no end after Bob Haldeman, or John Ehrlichman, died.. The witness protection guy from Syracuse who supposedly was a janitor at the Post-Standard... the creator of the 'Castro Convertable' reference... (Itself a riff off an athlete that told Tony to hold on because 'someone was at the door delivering a couch...') I'm likely just whistling in the dark here, but if any of you heard the show, you're laughing thinking about. The greatest free 3 hours evah....

![]() The "Tony" show was the best sports talk I've ever heard. I liked that he only talked to the elite sports writers, whose opinions I still search out if there is a big story in their city. The show wasn't always about sports but it was always entertaining.

I think he was much better on Sports Center covering the highlights than trying to be one on the radio. |

![]() tony was best on radio when wilbon, rich eisin would call in on short notice.
DP show was never the same after dibble left. DP got to caught up in the hollywood actor crap. he'd have actors on that want to be athletes and fall all over them, i'd have to turn it off.

Whether it was Stump the Band or Junior and Tony fighting like dog brothers. Mr Tony is lightyears ahead of Dan. How can you not love a sports show with a ban on athletes or the "classic" Recipes for barbecue chicken....... It's okay if your golden moment is "Twitching little freaks" from the spelling bee of the last year but Mr Tony radio is must listening... Just like "I am back for more cash" A title of a tony book......A fortune would be made if Kevin Stanfield or Andy Polly or whomever put together a collection of podcasts or CD's of the shows from the 90's.....It could be nothing more than ......."Classic" Tony would love DT......it's the same humor and he has a horse racing itch as he has Andy Beyer on every year. |
