Default Terrorist attacks in Great Britain

Hell of a way to greet the new PM...thank god the terrorists were inept! Two car bombs in downtown London and one at the Glasgow airport, none went off as planned. They captured one idiot at the airport and another is in critical condition...wore a suicide vest but that didn't apparently work either...third moron still in burning SUV at last report..crispy criter! Nation on highest alert expecting more attacks...my prayers go out to the people of England, one of only three dependable allies.

Somer: do you think this is for Brown,or Rushdie, or the anticipated escalation of attacks?

Seems likely that Brown was the target! These guys were pathetic though so who knows?

I think so too. When I heard about the Glasgow attempt, I immediately thought they're sending a message to Brown.

My daughter was in England last April. Glad she's home now.

Yeah, I'm glad she is too...a parent's worst nightmare is a child in harm's way!

five arrests--so far.

i know we've had a couple threads on here lately knocking some 'keystone kops', but from what i hear, a policeman was a true hero in this event--got in the car and dismantled the bomb before it could go off, risking his life in the process. seems a shame that idiots get the press, while many more don't get the credit they deserve for a thankless job.

I also agree. Let's not forget the tow truck operator that took one of the cars to a car park. Lucky!
If all of the "terrorists" are equally inept (and I don't think they are) they would be unable to use their greatest weapon, FEAR.
People in England have seen this before. Carry on.
Fear only has power when it is allowed to cause one to feel it.

The British appear to be very thorough. Scotland Yard takes its time so the fact they have made so many arrests so far confirms lots of blatant evidence. Very interesting they have arrested doctors.

I hope the British carry this as far as possible with so much evidence. With so many people involved, you know others knew what was going on and did not inform the authorities. They need to round them all up. A country cannot tolerate people who know innocent people are being targeted by a friend, etc... and sit passively, or they get interviewed and lie to hide the terrorists.
Dig deep on this one. The opportunity is there.

The best thing for that country would be for those demons to hire HandShadow Darden as their defense attorney.

does anyone else admire the way the British respond? They are so quick, professional, competent, effective. I don't know, its just something I've noticed over the years. When Scotland Yard is on the case you can rest assured that they'll get to the bottom of it.

I agree. I also like the idea of the security cameras. Seems like the public and government allow their police alot more freedom to do their job. Sometimes I think our government and civil rights groups hamper our police efforts.

oooooo

it's a fine line there...but then, how much of an expectation of privacy can you have in public? tricky business!

True but personally, I don't mind being filmed if it helps keep us safe. We've been videotaped in stores for years and I've never felt my rights were being violated.

i bet you wouldn't feel that way if you were a shoplifter! lol
it's always amusing to me when you see someone getting arrested, suddenly they know more about law then any cop or lawyer. it's truly amazing.

thing is tho...a lot of people say 'oh, i'm willing to give up some rights'--but which ones? and i'm not. now, in a public place, like i said, how much expectation of privacy can you have? by the same token, i don't want to live where there are cameras on every corner. yes, you want to feel safe from the bad guys. BUT, sometimes govt can be just as dangerous. it's tricky for sure.

I don't live in a city but if I did live in say, NYC, I would feel safer. I think people would think twice before doing something illegal. Then again, maybe that would make more criminals move to my mountain.

Well i'm not sure if you have heard the latest from over here, but it looks like the ringleader behind these attacks was actually a Brain Surgeon, described as a "near genius". All eight that have been arrested have been working in our national health service, most of them as Doctors, which is very worrying indeed.

Some of you were commenting about the speed of response, i'm not so sure. Our guys seem to wait until something has happened before getting into gear. Yesterday we were told that two of the men arrested had been under investigation for terrorism by MI5 for "some time"........ that really doesn't fill us with confidence, the fact they knew they were out there, they were pretty sure they posed a threat, but they waited until after they tried to kill hundreds.

Scotland was ready for an attack, they had prior intelligence that something was going to happen, but the way the terrorists struck came as a surprise, i think.

Anyway, the terror threat over here has now been lowered from Critical to severe.

In London, we have a drunk to thank. If it wasn't for this drunk outside the nightclub, the paramedics wouldn't have gone to the scene and would not have spotted the smoke/vapour coming from the car. It was very lucky. The second was even more lucky, the bomb was not discovered after it had been towed away to an underground compound......... experts have said, the device was a mobile/cell phone device and it couldn't have gone off while being underground as there was no reception to the phone.
