I have been following this case down here. No I am not working on it, but I was wondering what everyone else thought of this case.

Buffy,
I really don't know what to say other than this is very sad.
Was the kid trying to do a prank?
I'm not sure the shooter did the right thing. If he could have turned on a light, or done something else...well, that's a coulda, shoulda, woulda.
I know that I don't think too clearly at midnight when I think my house is being invaded.
The story is quite tragic.

I have been reading about it in the paper. It is a big case down here and has even been on Court TV.

From what I have gathered, it seems as though it all happened around 12:30am. Kid and a couple of buddies were playing "ding, dong, ditch". The kid was hooking fishing line to the dude's door knocker. I am guessing that is what the dude heard. He grabbed his gun and went to the door. Opened the door, it was dark, and there was the kid standing about three or four feet away from him. What would you do if you were in that situation?

By the way, the parents attorney isn't overly stating it but the kid was 6'1.

Buffy,
What would I do?
Probably lock the door and call the police.
Hindsight is 20/20.
I'm very sad for all involved.
I know of other "pranks gone bad". I won't get into it.
Kids should think first...but not likely.
Sad!!

Whatever happened to flipping on the porch lights when you hear a noise outside?

They awarded the parents a lot of money, but didn't find the dude guilty of intentionally killing the kid so the parents can't go after punitive damages in the millions. I think the jury got it right.
